Pull any speedometer error codes:

1- Turn Ignition switch to OFF & Run/Stop switch is to Run.
2- Push odometer reset button in & hold.
3- Turn ignition switch to Ignition and release odometer reset button. Background lighting should illuminate, speedometer needle should sweep its full range and indicator lamps (battery, security, low fuel, check engine and cruise) should illuminate. The word "diag" should then appear.
4 - Push the odometer reset button once and you will see the selection menu "PSSPt" with the first P flashing.
5 - Each letter represents an area of the diagnostics module. The module that is flashing is the one you are going to check. To move from one letter (module) to the next, you push the odometer reset button one time. (from P to S to SP to t and back to P, etc.)
P = ECM/ICM (Electronic Control Module [EFI] / Ignition Control Module [Carbureted)
S = TSM/TSSM (Turn Signal/ Turn Signal Security Module)
SP = speedometer
T = tachometer
6 - To get the DTC within an area of diagnostics, push and hold the odometer reset button in for 5 seconds and release. If there are any DTC's the code will be displayed or the word "none" will appear if there are no DTC's. Push the odometer reset button again to view additional codes if they exist.
7 - Record the codes.
8 - If DTC's are not to be cleared, Press and release the odometer reset button. Part number of module will be displayed.
NOTE: To determine if a code is current or historic, clear the displayed code by pushing in and holding the odometer reset button ( longer than 5 seconds) until 'clear' comes up. Release the odometer reset button. Turn OFF the ignition switch. Run your bike and shut it down then recheck the DTC's again by repeating steps 1 to 9. If the code is current it will reappear.
9 - Press and release the odometer reset button to continue to the next module.
10 - Turn Ignition switch to OFF.
On models not equipped with a tachometer "No Rsp" will appear when the tachometer identifier is selected.
"No Rsp" will also appear if the run/off switch is in the off position when doing this procedure.

Now, once you have the error codes, what do they mean?

99 Harley Mechanical speedometer does not work: odometer and trip meter work

If it's a mechanical and the odometer and trip meter are still running, the speedometer head is bad and the only thing you can do is replace it. There are places that "restore" speedometers but they are geared towards the restoration of speedometers for older bikes. It's very expensive to get one restored and you'll be better off to simply replace the speedo. There's no way to get inside the speedo and then reseal it when you're done on the late model units.

My speedometer stopped working 1998 dodge ram and the air bag light came on and stayed on. I replaced both speed sensors(back differential and transmission). Still not working and any ideas?

hi ,the air bag light will need resetting ,have it reset by an auto shop who has a diagnostic machine to plug into it,some dont even charge for this service ,as for the speedo it could be a number of things that will need checking ,firstly fuses,then wiring leading from the speed sensor on the transmission up to the speedometer in the dash ,then have the speedometer removed and checked ,it has to be one of these ,THANK YOU FOR USING FIX YA

I have a 1999 fxstc. the speedometer stopped working. Also the turn signals work but have to be turned off manually. The engine is an 80 cubic inch.

On the Softail speedometer there is a reed switch that turns the turn signals off. If you don't have any power to the speedo, the reed switch won't work. Try to find out whether or not you have power to the speedo.

Speedometer is sticking. I have a 95 wide glide. what can I do?

Replace the speedometer. If the speedo is sticking showing you're moving at 60 mph or so when you're actually sitting still, the movement in the speedo is bad. There are places that can "rebuild" speedometers but they aren't practical for your purpose. These place specialize in restoring older speedometers and are very expensive. You can simply purchase a replacement speedo for less than these people would want to repair yours.

How do I replace the 2 speedometer light bulbs on my 1993 Harley Davidson FLSTC?

You have to remove the dash. Take the screw out of the trip reset knob and the nut off between the speedo and the ignition switch. The dash will lift off. Sometimes you can get to the bulbs you want to replace by using something to pry the socket out of the speedo. Otherwise, you'll have to take the two pins, one on each side, out to lift the speedo up. Pull the socket out replace the bulb and reinstall the speedo.

I have a 97 harley flhri and my speedometer only work sometimes or it goes erratic and reads the wrong speed. Tach is working fine. Any suggestions?

Your speedo head is either bad or your speedo drive cable is bad. Remove the cable and check it. If it's good, then the speedo head is going bad.

MY HARLEY FAT BOY 2002 SPEEDOMETER FACE NEEDS TO REPLACED

You're better of to simply purchase a new speedo. There are places that can replace the face in your speeometer but this work is expensive. The service is primarily for restoring antique speedometers. Just buy a new speedo.

1988 Nissan MaximThe speedometer quite working Is there a fuse??

Hi,

If you got ignition lights it won't be the fuse.
Check that the speedo gear is ok and then check the cable is ok.
If all those are ok then check that the speedo head is working by spinning the cable in the speedo head.

Hope this helps

I'm after changing my front brake pad on my 03 audi a4 afterward speedometer isn't working and engine check light abs esp light are all on

The speedo not working causes these 3 lights to come on due to the speed of the car needed for the ABS ESP to work . Engine management light is on due to the first 2 lights . Happenned to me last night. Dont know what is up with your speedo . You have to reset the lights after speedo fixing as I am uncertain whether they will reset themselves.
