Be sure "talkaround" is enabled on the code-plug, then use the "direct" or "talkaround" button on the front panel.

Can you use the Motorola XPR 4550 as a police scanner?

The Motorola XPR 4550 is a two-way radio, not a scanner. Scanners are devices that can listen to a wide range of frequencies, whereas two-way radios are designed for communication between a limited number of specific devices on specific frequencies. However, you can use a scanner to listen to the frequency that the Motorola XPR 4550 is transmitting on.

I bought a motorola xpr 6550 fr. Ebay and I can not connect with my two existing radio with the same model?

It is a business band radio, not a consumer radio. It must be programmed by a Licensed Two Way radio shop. The radios are programmed by a dealer for whatever frequencies (channels) the customer requires, so each radio can be programmed differently.

What do the buttons on the bpr 40 do?

Both buttons have a short and a long press function. The button right below the PTT button is typically programmed to short press Monitor, long press Sticky Monitor. The bottom button comes from the factory on scan/nuisance channel delete. The buttons can be custom programmed when the dealer is programming the radio, so these are just a general guess based on the factory default setting. Other options include repeater talkaround, high/low power, volume set, and maybe tight loose squelch.

Best regards.

Motorola 4550 locked out

Hi Michael,

The answer is yes.

You need to reset your radio to factory default settings to be able to once again, use the radio. Your friend software will be required to do this, so... CHOP, CHOP, hop to it.

I hope you have been helped here.

Cheers,
Peter

How do I adjust the range on my motorola XRP 4550?

Uh, stick with analog. Digital radios do NOT have better range than analog. You lose about 5-10% on the outer fringes. For range, those radios were designed to operate on a repeater, often called trunked radio relay system.
Your digital radio is likely on someone elses' frequency. Channels are controlled by the FCC and are not for consumers. You must have an FCC License or an agreement to use the mentioned Trunked Relay. You may have a thing called busy lockout programmed, which means when someone else is talking, you get blocked. The only thing you can do to get your radio(s) working well is to have them reprogrammed by a professional (Radio Shop). If you can, have them programmed for analog only.
For basic radio use and reasonable coverage, get a couple of 25-50 watt Vhf analog radios. Get a License and you will be very happy! Buy the best antennas, installed correctly and you will have decent range. Antennas matter on terrain, so high gain may not be the best choice. Been a radio dealer/repair since 1980, before the start of digital and beyond. Beware the over promising of digital.

Motorola AXU4100 talkaround mode

One of your programmable buttons, A, B, C or D, should be programmed for the TalkAround feature.

The options are:
Nuisance Channel Delete
PL/DPL enable (on/off)
High/Low Power
Volume Set
Scan
TalkAround

The buttons can be programmed for 2 features, both a long and a short press setting.
