My sharp carousel II microwave doesn't seem to have power. I checked the power source and that seems fine. Is there an internal fuse?

Is it dead, meaning no display, no light when you open the door and no beeps when you press a pad on the keypad?

We have the relevant service / repair manuals for this model and have uploaded it to our site here and here to help you.

They will give you safety info, step by step help in disassembly, troubleshooting tips, and part numbers.

Most computers will open these documents automatically, but you may need the free Adobe Reader

I would suspect the 20A ceramic line fuse or the magnetron temperature fuse.

You can order parts from Encompass here or you can call them toll-free at 866-779-5835.

20A ceramic fuses are available at local appliance part stores or places like Wal-Mart and Lowe's.

We're happy to help you with free advice and we'd appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.

Built-in Sharp Carousel II Microwave Convection Oven died.

There are a couple of safety thermostats in the oven to shut down power if something overheats. One is on the magnetron tube (the microwave source), the other is on the cooking cavity. These sometimes go bad. There's also a power line fuse that may have failed, or become loose in its mounting clips. These can be tested with an ohmmeter; they should all measure very close to zero ohms if they're good.

Another possibility is that the control circuit board in the oven may have failed. I have worked on several Sharp ovens where the power transformer for the board has gone bad for no good reason. If the board goes bad the oven may appear to be dead as well.

Microwave servicing is best left to professionals. If you're thinking of keeping this one, take it to a service shop (or call for home service) and get an estimate. Then decide whether to repair or replace.

Hope this has helped a little. Thanks for using Fixya!

R-8350, No power to touchpad, but interior light works

The touchpad has its own fuse which has probably blown due to a surge perhaps related to the turning on of the fridge. Removing the cover from a microwave is potentially lethal due to the large capacitor to drive the magnetron. However, this is usually well away from the front panel. If you do venture in you should first unplug the unit and when the outer cover is removed, discharge the large capacitor with well insulated pliers -= otherwise keep well away from it. The fuse you are interested in is on the pc board behind the touchpad. Replace it with exactly the same fuse (usually a slow blow fuse).

Sharp microwave stopped working

Is it totally dead? No display? Or just does not cook? If it made an unusual noise before it 'died' something probably shorted out.... You need an ohm meter to troubleshoot. If the fuse is open, switches and HV circuit need to be checked before replacing fuse. Sometimes on the convection Microwaves (not just Sharp) the fuse will 'rust' and open rather than blow. Or the fuse holder can over heat and fail.

Sharp Carousel Microwave has no power

I too believe that a "protection fuse" was possibly blown. It would need to be found and get replaced. Hopefully it is just a fuse and nothing else because the way it sounds to me, the microwave may be damaged.

Good Luck!

Sharp Carousel Microwave R-1460A no power, door switch went first

You will want to replace the fuse and door switches. You will not be able to run it without replacing door switches. You do not need a new microwave. Door switches go bad, it has nothing to do with radiation.

Sharp carousel II microwave/convection oven

The question is... Do you want to put money on a 18year MW, or put it towards a new one? I must admit I love the SHARP Combo MW Convection ovens. I own two. One is almost 25years old. The mechanical Timer Type, but they work great and I can maintain them with 30years ef exrerience. I am now retired.
It does sound like the Magnetronhas broken down, however it could be other things in the Secondary (High Voltage Side). The High Voltage Side is made up of the Secondary HV side of the High Voltage Transformer, A High Voltage Diode, a High Voltage Capacitor, and the Magnetron. The High Voltage Side is DANGEROUS, and CAUTION should be taken to protect yourself against EXTREME HIGH VOLTAGE. unplug from power and DISCHARGE High Voltage Capaciton to frame GROUND before touching anything!!!!

Microwave convection oven repair needed

Check the internal fuse. Unplug it, unscrew and take off the cover, the fuse should be easily found in the back by the power cord. I tlooks like a regular fuse but is white instead of clear glass because microwave fuses are special. You'll have to measure it with a meter as a result and be sure to replace it with the same kind. (try finding them at radio shack) Hopefully there isn't something more serious also.
