Fuji Finepix 601. Lens cover won't open but camera does turn on.

The warranty does not cover damage from your dropping of the camera.

The lens Is trying to close properly but the focus mechanism has a problem, most likely jammed, so the lens cannot correctly close or work properly.
It will need to be opened up and reset.

Do you mean the lens cover on the end of the lens Is not opening properly, or the shutter inside the lens?

I threw the camera away!

I had the same problem turn up after a few weeks. When I used the zoom button, the lens pushed out again and the camera worked normally for that time. I had to go through that procedure every time I turned the camera on.
I then sent it back on warranty and they replaced the lens assembly as well as the mode dial knob etc.
This camera has a 3 year warranty.

Get onto Sony Tech Support team. This is a camera failure the will honour the warranty here I am sure.

You might as well replace the camera in this case.
