Mower wont start but when i run wire from battery to starter it starts but when you let out the clutch it dies

You bypassed the start safety and it starts/runs so battery and starter work along with kill. The first fault symptom is it will not crank engine?

If yes, suggest you troubleshoot the no crank. The typical start safety interlock is brake ON (clutch disengaged) and PTO off (some require seat occupied). You will need trace the the start engine circuit beginning with the S pole of the start switch through the entire safety interlock. Likely this will require a schematic of the interlock circuit as it is mfg specific.

What's is the make/model?

Will a dead battery cause the igintion switch to stick and not disengage from park, 99 gmc jimmy

Sounds more like you might have a shifter interlock issue. But the solenoid for the shifter interlock is electric, so if the battery is dead and the cable is not moving freely, it could cause the shift lever to be stuck in park.

When I turn the ignition switch to start the vehicle I often cannot shift the stick shift out of Park. If I immediately try to switch gears after starting the engine it usually works but if I leave it more...

.
Shift Interlock System
The shift interlock system prevents a shift out of PARK unless the brake pedal is depressed. The shift interlock system has a shift lock actuator mounted on the floor shifter assembly. If the ignition switch is in the RUN position, the shift actuator will allow the shifter to be moved out of PARK only when the brake pedal is pressed.
Electroniclly controlled !

Condition Possible Sources Action
  • The shift interlock system does not release or lock correctly
  • Fuse in battery junction box (BJB)
  • Check fuses.
  • Brake pedal position (BPP) switch
  • CHECK the BPP switch. REFER to Section 206-09 .
  • Floor shifter wiring and/or connectors
  • Transmission selector lever
  • Ignition system
  • Go To Pinpoint Test A .

2004 grand vitara will not start and solenoid will not click, Battery is fine.

Sounds like the ignition interlock at the transmission switch is out of adjustment or faulty. Bypass the key switch, at the starter, if it now cranks, it's in the interlock switch or the ignition switch.

Hi, I'm assuming your solenoid is not clicking. If that is the case, the problem is either the ignition switch or the interlock. The interlock is under the clutch pedal if you have a manual transmission or screwed into the transmission if you have an automatic.

1993 taurus when I start the car and as long as i holded the key the car will stay started but if I let go it goes dead

Hello, It sounds like the Ignition switch is bad or the adjustment for the Ignition switch is out of alignment. Some of the Ignition switches will have a rod in the steering column to reach switches under the dash. Check under the dash at the switches mounted around the Brake pedal lever. The switch at that point is an Interlock switch which senses that a foot is on the Brake before it allows you to shift out of Park. And it keeps supplying power when the engine is running.

It is quite common for feet to hit the Interlock switch and knock it out of alignment. When this happens it can cause several problems including yours. If the Interlock switch is still in position and not cracked or broken, then the Ignition switch is bad or out of adjustment.

This boils down to 1 rod or cable in the column with an adjustable switch on each end. The Interlock switch below the dash and the Ignition switch. To take off or adjust the Ignition switch you should remove the plastic column cover, disconnect the Battery and turn the Ignition switch to RUN or ACC. position. Then insert your key and press a drillbit under the spring release in the steering column just below the switch. Pull up with your key and the lock cylinder should come out of the Ignition switch.

There will be an Electric connector to remove and an adjustment screw on the side of the Ignition switch. You can see if the screw worked its way loose, reconnect the Battery and adjust the rod or cable. For all the work you may as well put in a new switch at this point. Adjust everything to function, then disconnect the Battery and reassemble the parts.

I hope my solution is very helpful in solving your problem.
