Should the fan come on the outside unit when the heater comes on?

If you have a heat pump unit then yes because the AC is working in reverse and makes heat from the outside unit. If you know you only have electric heat only then no.

A/C starts, goes immediately to heat

Unfortunately, your rear unit is calling for heat. If you put the rear unit on heat pump mode, does it then cool?
moz-screenshot-2.jpgmoz-screenshot-3.jpgThe reversing valve is energized in the cool mode of these AC's. So there is no real way to bypass it. I would check the thermostat and the control board in the unit to make sure that the switches are set correctly.

In the service manual section of the dometic/Rooftop RV Air Conditioner section. I have posted service manuals for the Heat Pump and the Comfort Control.

Hope this helps,

Jeff

Outside unit come on for ac but inside won't come on for ac or heat

Turn Tsat to fan to see if inside unit will come on. If it does Tstat needs replaced. If not it is fan motor or fan relay. Possible cap. Do you here the fan relay come in. If it is a Good man unit it is time delay and you wont here it. Need to know your make of unit. Rusty

Central a/c and heat not blowing not working

Could be a circuit breaker tripped. Check the electrical panel for a tripped breaker. If they check out, then call a service tech to look at the outdoor unit. Good luck

Heated air coming out when unit is in Cool Mode

Heat pumps are sometime constructed to "Fail in the heat mode." It could be either the t'stat or the reversing valve. Be sure the t'stat is wired correctly. Usually the"O" terminal is for the reversing valve on the outdoor unit.

When I turn the air on the heat strips comes on at the same time

Is this a central heat? From the size i assume it is.
You say air conditioning on part of your question then use heat pump on another part. So it is important for us both be on the same page.
With all due respect some people think they have a heat pump and it is just AC and electric heat also but is not a heat pump.
. If you have the outdoor AC unit running with your thermostat set for heat and the air coming off the out door unit is cold, or you see it "steam up outdoors" off the out door unit at times (we call this mode defrost).

If you actually have a Heat pump system some times it is wired to have the strips come on at the same time the heat pump comes on especially if you experience a lot of weather below 40' occasionally and have an emergency heat setting on your thermostat you most likely have a heat pump.

If you have a heat pump for sure now the heaters can come on with the outdoor section if
1 they are wired to do so or
2 the thermostat has 2 stage heating and the second stage is telling the elements to come on, or
3 the outdoor thermostat (if so equipped) is telling the elements to come on.
Any 1 or combination of these 3 items can cause the elements to come on wit the out door unit.

Non-working outside unit

If your unit is blowing heat inside and it's not a heat pump. It will be most likely electric heat in your case.
Sounds like you have a split unit meaning the condenser is outside and the cooling and the heat features are inside or under your home.If your Rudd is a heat-pump the outside unit will cycle/blow cold air outside in winter and hot air will cycle/blow outside during the summer season. Now, if for some reason the heat  is not coming on inside the house, would be the only reason that you would need to be concerned. Being a heat relay or breaker of could cause that problem. Hope this helps you, Sea Breeze

I am experiencing a similar problem with my Mitsubishi slimline MSH09TW unit; about 4 years old; It use to give us very hot air now it is giving some what hot air; northeastern USA current temperature about 15F. You think frigid weather in Cranbury NJ could be responsible or some thing else is going on. Please help me if you have some time and knowledge about Mitsubishi heat pumps. Sincerely, DSS
