The cover for the lens on this camera is 4 small segments that slide back from the center of the lens when the camera is turned on. Our toddler grabbed the closed camera, with fingers on the lens cover, and 1 of the 2 larger segments broke off of the cover. One of the 2 very small segments, located in the bottom corner, that would normally slide off the lens with this missing segment, remains on the lens when the camera is on. I think it's possible that this piece broke off as well, and it's only jammed into that corner, since it's positioned differently than its undamaged counterpart. Bad idea to try removing that small piece? We had already begun plans to upgrade to a digital slr when this happened, so I'm thinking we just deal with a lens that isn't covered completely until we get the new one in our hands.
Appreciate your thoughts, love the blog. Thank you!
Possible for you to explain why entire lens needs replacing? Camera works same as always, only there is a small dark smudge in the lower corner of any photos because of the piece of the cover that is not fully retracted.
Not sure how, but this question was originally submitted under the wrong camera type -- you saw this is actually a PowerShot, right?
Thanks.Possible for you to explain why entire lens needs replacing?

It's not really a problem if the lens cover isnt there. The following actually shows how to repair a broken lens cover. But have a feeling yours may be damaged beyond repair, so the next option is removal of the shutters. Be careful that you don't get any of the rubbing alcohol that's spoken of in the following procedures on the lens itself.

1) this is indicative the lcd camera has been faulty. 2) you must replace it. 3) contact your company supplier, and get the parts, you can do it yourself, only need small screwdrivers and common sense. God bless you
Slide the latch in the center of the battery cover toward the front of the lens, then flip open the cover. It's hinged toward the center of the body, so it flips open in that direction.
There's an illustration in the "Preparations" section of the Basic manual (page 5 in my copy). If you need manuals, you can download them from http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer/digital_cameras/powershot_a_series/powershot_a630#BrochuresAndManuals
Sure it is, and repair isn't that hard. See this link for tips on repair of sticky automatic lens covers. Recommend reading the reader's comments section of the link for additional tips. Especially pay attention to the vacuum cleaner tip.
You can but, you must be VERY careful. It isn't like a film camera. Everything must be lined up perfectly when you put it back together. There is also a very small pickup behind the lens that will need to be cleaned. It is about 1/8" X 1/4".
hi u need to get the lens repaired the railing in the lessystem is no correct so pleas dont try to doit or push in .... it will be permanent damage ....get to the shot5 the camera is not broken need small fix....
Lens errors are fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. Or the battery ran down with the lens extended ...
Here's some things that you can do to try to correct it. They only seem to work for less than 50% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty, they're worth a try:

My lens was stuck inside the camera and would not come out when I turned the camera on. I could hear a sound but nothing was happening with the lens. I used a dental pick (small sharp pointed object) to pull at the lens and it came out and seems to be working fine. Just tried it a couple of hours ago and It seems to be OK.
