Question about Mitsubishi WS-55515 55" Rear Projection HDTV

MODLE NUMBER WS-55511

THE TV TURNS ON AND THEN TURNS OFF RIGHT AWAY.  THERE IS NO PICTURE OR SOUND

Over the past few months when I turn on the TV, the power will go off and the green power light will blink for about a minute. I would then be able to turn on normally. Now, when I turn on the power, it stays on for 2 seconds and shuts off with no picture or sound. Sometimes, when I turn on the power, the green light just blinks for 1 minute and turns off. I have tried to reset several times with the same results as above. I am running the tv through a surge protector which shows everything is fine. Is this a capacitor problem, power supply, etc. Please tell me what you think and what parts will be needed.

    Thanks,

Mitsubishi ws-55511 Sound & Cable picture turns on and off

Hi,

DO A HARD RESET: Unplug the power cord for 4 hours. This will discharge all the voltages on the internal eproms. When you power it back up the factory defaults will automatically replace the eprom data. This will correct any corrupted codes.

Of course, this may not be the problem, but could be. So this is a first line check.

WHACKING TEST: Many times these sort of mysterious conditions are a result of loose wiring or cold solder joints. About half of the strange complaints I get fall into this category. While the set is on and while you are trying to address the OSD, bang on the cabinet in several places with your hand or fist. This will jar the set hard enough to restore the faulty internal connection that may have been the culprit.

If nothing pops up by now, it is most likely the controller IC and/or screen graphics driver is defective and needs replaced. This is not related to the picture or video that comes from the program, they are really quite separate.

The cost of this repair could be quite high because it will require a tech to do some clever analysis in order to find out exactly which circuit is the offending one.

I don't think you will find this kind of problem written up in any of the manuals or service books. It is quite strange and really, if a tech is needed, well require one who is a cut above the ordnary one: Someone who really knows how to troubleshoot and analyse and think about what is going on inside. Most Mitsubishi techs are "phone jockeys" the merely call an 800 number and someone tells them which board to replace. They replace until the repair is made and they don't really know what is going on inside - but you get a bill for $400 or $500!

Gooddluck,

Would you like to bypass, defeat or reset your Mitsubishi HDTV Parental V-Chip parental lock? Have you forgotten your V-Chip passcode or password?

If you forget your V-Chip passcode, you can view the locked TV without entering your password.

When your passcode is requested, press the number 9 and the QV button on the original TV remote control at the same time. This process temporarily unlocks your TV.

When you enter the V-Chip Lock menu, pressing the number 9 and the QV button on the original TV remote control at the same time will delete your old password and prompt you to enter a new passcode. Pressing HOME at this time will cancel the entire passcode.

I hope that helps.

When you turn the tv on it go right back off Mitsubishi WS-55511 55 in. It about (5)yrs old I have try unplugging the tv for about 3 to 5 minute

Do this: When you turn it on and the green power light comes on and goes off:

On the front of the set press and hold BOTH the Menu and Input buttons at the same time for at least 5 seconds and then release both.

This model has a self check: The green power light will then blink a two digit error code: most common is 2 blinks, 2 blinks and a pause and repeat the error code at least 5 times.

Let me know what you find and I will tell you what it means.

I hope you get 2,2 as it is the most easy to resolve.

If this told you something you did not know rate this solution as very helpful as I do this here for free.
