LG Microwave Beeps 3 times, display shows F3 and keypad dead.

LG MS2548GR counter top microwave oven. 2 weeks old. 4 or 5 good uses.

Randomly at 2:00am and other times started beeping 3 or 4 long loud beeps then the display shows --F3--. Keypad does not respond. Disconnect and wait 1/2hr and restart. Sometimes this fixes the problem, sometimes not. Problem repeats after 5-10mins.

Trying to get an RA No from LG and replace it.

    Thanks. Yes it is less than one year old, 2 weeks in fact. Thanks for your advice and I'll keep it handy if needed.

    But I'm gonna push for a return, not a warranty claim with 5 week turnaround and transport at my cost. That smells, stinks in fact.

Since it's less than one year old, it would be fully covered under warranty.

I'd suggest returning it to the dealer or contacting the manufacturer to get it fixed free.

F3 flashes/beeps. I see it says its a damaged keypad that needs replacing--"a simple DYI project." I'm willing to give it a try, though I haven't a clue or ANY experience how. I mean not...

HELLO.

THERE IS SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM.

GE microwaves with a digital display will show an error code when there is a problem or malfunction with the unit. One type of error code that will be displayed on a GE oven and require troubleshooting is a code F3.
An F3 error code indicates that the keypad for the control panel is bad. This will cause the microwave to beep continuously after the set clock message appears.

Need things

* Phillips-head screwdriver
* Hair dryer
* Key panel
* Key membrane

1 Unplug the power cord for the microwave from the electrical outlet. Pull the microwave out from the wall and set it on a table or the counter.

2 Find and remove the two screws from the top of the grille, on the font of the unit, with the Phillips-head screwdriver. Pull the grille off of the microwave.

3 Find and remove the screws that are used to secure the control panel to the microwave frame. Lift the control panel unit up and away from the microwave.

4 Find and remove the screw that is used to secure the green ground wire. Pull out all of the connectors and ribbon cables from the control board.

5 Apply heat from a hair dryer to the front of the control board for at least 30 seconds. Make sure the hair dryer is at the low setting. Pull up on one corner of the top membrane, then peel it off of the control board.

6 Repeat Step 5 for the other membrane that is on the control board.

7 Insert the pliable circuit of the new membrane through the opening in the control board. Remove the wax backing to expose the adhesive for the membrane. Place the membrane onto the control board.

8 Peel the wax backing off of the top membrane, then place it on the control board.

9 Place the control board back on the microwave and secure it with the screwdriver. Reattach the grille, and set the microwave back in place.

10 Plug the microwave back into the power outlet and reset the clock.

Willing to help on other problems.

Thanks.

Key pad lockout and load beeps

F3 on a GE / Hotpoint microwave means you have a shorted membrane keypad.

Since it's a basic counter top microwave, this may not be worth repair when you consider the cost of a new comparable unit.

If you (or someone you know) might want to replace it yourself, I have uploaded a handy guide with pictures showing you what's typically involved.

The part number of your keypad is
WB27X10624 and you can get it here for $51.37 plus shipping.

Good luck!

My GE Spacemaker XL1800 ovenstarted to show F3 error message and three beeps. Keyboard except light and fan keys was dead. Disconnected it from the wall outlet and forgot about it for three. weeks....

F3 on a GE / Hotpoint microwave means you have a shorted membrane keypad.

I would need to know your actual model number to tell you exactly, but on GE most models you can replace the control panel assy, which comes with a new keypad, and that's an easy DIY job with a part cost of about $100, sometimes less.

At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

Next, disconnect the strip as shown in the photo below, then remove the screws that hold your circuit board in the old frame.

Then carefully (since the display is made of glass) move your circuit board to the new frame, and reassembly is the reverse of disassembly.

You can find exploded view diagrams and order parts here.

MY MICROWAVE WILL NOT DO ANYTHING

I couldn't find those exact trouble codes, but a common problem is when the controller gets damp, either from steam rising from the cooktop or someone spraying cleaner directly on the keypad. Cleaners should always be sprayed on a soft cloth, then wipe the keypad with the cloth. Also, GE / Samsung codes of F1, F2 and F3 may be the same since Samsung makes GE microwaves. Those would mean trouble with the temperature sensor, keypad, or control panel. Assuming your control panel is clean and dry, it may be time to call for service.
