The movie needs to be first converted into a dvd movie.

you can use a software for example to convert a movie file into dvd format:

Windows Media player will not burn DVD movies to a DVD ,if you are intending using the discs in a standard DVD player, you will need a conversion software programme.

DVD RW is a reusable dvd that most home entertainment systems cant read because most times the disc is not properly finalised your pc is another matter,
my advice is that you should burn the movie onto a DVD-R and that should do the trick,

I just burn a writeable cd from my desktop pc using windowa movie maker. I can play it back on my pc no problem but when I insert it into my dvd player it reads no supported files found.windows used high...

Computers use video files such as AVI, WMV, MPG etc.

DVD players use VOB video files, and will not recognise the computer video files.

Unfortunately, Windows Moive Maker cannot create VOB files - you will need another piece of software to convert the WMV file Windows Movie Maker creates to a VOB.

A lot of disc burning programs (e.g. Nero) include video converters. See if you've already got one on you computer.

If not, try Googling 'WMV to VOB'. There's quite a few free ones out there.

Hope this helps,

Matt

I downloaded a movie on my computer. I burnt the disc and when I put it in the dvd player it says cannot play disc. I have a sony DVD Player. Any thoughts?

The exact model of DVD player matters. Not all models can play a Computer burned disc.
There are several types of DVD
A factory type DVD in DVD format
A burned movie in MPEG format
a burned disc in DivX format.
Etc.
Try burning the disc with a DVD Creator program, not just 'Burn to DVD'. It's not the same thing.

Mine is Sony DVD player..I insert a disc and it says "CAN NOT PLAY THE DISC" and then the player shuts off. The other DVD works fine.

HI,
Check the manuel some DVD Players do not support DVD RW or -R +R formats. When Ifirst put my burned movie in I got the message that the player cant play that format Just ignore that and advance the Video to where the movie is starting then all my burned movies played fine. My Pioneer BD 51 FD does support DVD RW +R -R formats so be sure that you can play burned DVD RW +R -R on your Sony player. I was in Wal Mart the other day and they had some DVD players on sale but on the box it said that they do not play DVD RW +R or -R Burned DVD's so be careful if you do buy another one I went to best buy and found mine. Check first it will save a lot of hassle later. This software works great but it may not play in your DVD Sony Player there is a list here of compatible DVD Players

OR

your disc is scratched or a pirated one

Burned a movie on pc dvd player cant read disc

Most AVI files from the torrent network use codecs to compress the size of the file you are downloading, and most DVD players only support the basic DIVX codec. A way to get around this issue is to use Nero software on your PC to burn a Video DVD. Selecting this option will make the program decipher the data and write it to the dvd as a compatible format with your standard DVD player.

Movie download

The movie you had downloaded is in AVI or divx format ....for that you need to have a divx enabled DVD Player.......
If your dvd player does't support DivX format .... it won't play it..
Try running that movie in DivX enable DVD Player
