Question about Sub-Zero 650 / O Bottom Freezer Refrigerator

2 Answers

Sub-Zero 650/F The refrigerator is not cooling fully. It will hold about 50 degrees, maybe 47 if your lucky. The freezed appears to be OK. Funny thing, the control panel for the refrigerator appears to be working backwards. When you hit cooler it displays a higher temperture and vice versa. I thought the micro controller was confused due to recent power blips so I shut the unit down completely at the circuit breaker. That did not remedy the problem. I also checked it with a digital thermometer to make sure the internal display was OK. It was within a degree or two. The other funny thing is the compressor seems to cycle off thinking its satisfied the temperature. I have not checked the fans yet. Ed at [email protected] or [email protected]

Thanks for the tips, the Re value is 48 so it looks like the evap is bad.  I've called for service and they are going to come and confirm.  Sub-Zero said that if it's the evap they'll cover it -- THANKS.  I still don't know why the refrig controls work backwards  - "warmer causes temp to go down" and "colder causes the temp to go up" but I'll have that checked at the same time.  I'll let you know the final results.  Much appreciated.

Our refigerator is about 10 years old. It is not keeping cold. It's a side by side. The freezer appears to be working properly. I have turned the knob that regulates the cooling from 5 to 7 and now to 9. Nothing seems to work. Do you have some suggestions?

Sub Zero 650 freezer srction ok but refrigerator wont get cool - sounds like Refrigerator Evaporator may be the problem to be diagnosed. Where do I contact Sub-Sero in Calgary Canada. Mike 403-271-1867

Get into diagnostic mode by pressing and holding either colder key, then pressing on/off. You can use the colder key to scroll through 5 reading labeled fe, re, f, and r  look at the re temp. is it higher than 38? if it is you probably have a freon leak in the evaporater refridgerator (call sub zero...they will completely pay for this issue, even past the 5 year warranty)  If the temp reads really low (like 10 on re or something) you probably have a bad fan or fan switch in the fridge portion. this unit has seperate compressors and freon for the fridge and freezer..hence the lack of problems in the freezer. hope this helps!

Looks good what are all the definitions of fe, re, f, r, and ? (you said there are five. How do we return to normal operation? I don't want to wind up in 'showroom' or 'sabbath' modes.
Thanks

My Frigidaire refrigerator quit cooling in the fridge side. Freezer side works OK

Sounds like a defrost problem. Is there frost build up on inside back wall of freezer? If heater is good, the control or the defrost thermostat may be bad. Is fan in freezer and fan at compressor running?

Of error code on display screen. how do I fix it?

If your control panel displays "OF" instead of the temperature, your refrigerator is in "Cooling Off" mode. In Cooling Off mode, the refrigerator appears to be running normally, but the compressor is off so the unit does not cool. Cooling Off mode is used by retailers to save electricity when the refrigerator is on the showroom floor.

Note: Cooling Off mode is also called Demo mode or Exhibition mode.

Depending on your refrigerator, to remove your refrigerator from Cooling Off mode:

  • Either press and hold the Energy Saver and Power Freeze buttons for 3 seconds
  • Or press and hold the Power Freeze and Freezer buttons for 3 seconds.

The temperature display re-appears after the unit is out of Cooling Off mode.

My GE Adora seams to be breaking down. Freezer is not freezing and temperature in both, Freezer and Refrigerator is dropping. HAVE reset the temperatures to GE's recommendation of 0 Degrees and 38...

One thing you can do is make sure condenser coils have plenty of area around them (nothing lying against refrigerator) to prevent air flow. If possible vacuum and clean condenser coils and make sure freezer door is completely closed.

The refrigerator stays at 47 degrees but the bottom compartments freeze

You have a defrost problem. A blockage of frost in the freezer prevents air flow over the cooling coils there, allowing very cold air to migrate back into the bottom of the refrigerator section. Unload the freezer and remove the back wall, melt the frost off the coils with a hair blower, and check to see if the defrost heater at the bottom of the coils is burnt out. If heater is OK, replace the 1.5 inch long white thermistor located at the very top of the cooling coils.

The refrigerator on my side by side doesn't appear to be cooling as cold as it used to be. It's maintaining about 50 degrees. I've turned the knob up to the coldest level, but it doesn't get any colder...

Check the evaporator fan inside the freezer compartment. You should hear it running if you open the door while the compressor is running. It blows cold air from the freeer into the fridge. If the fan is running, there could be a problem with the damper which regulates airflow into the fridge.

Kenmore top freezer, not cooling what so ever...HELP!!!

Sears has a number that is different than everyone. The number looks like this 213.52698 for example. The defrost thermostat will open the contact at about 50 degrees. If the thermostat is open all the time the defrost will never happen. Let me know, Sea Breeze
