Display says card not initialized when a new xd picture card is inserted in the fuji fine pix A340 how do i initialize or format the card

the camera cannot use XD picture card and multimedia card (MMC). SD and SDHC can be used. for compatibility check this http://www.fujifilm.com/products/digital_cameras/accessories/card/a/ you might need to update your product depending on your serial no.
to format the card, press menu to display menu setup, press right to move to setup 2 (3rd tab) you will see Format. click Format to format the memory ("SD" is displayed if memory card is inserted and "IN" (internal memory) if no memory card. hope this helps

I am getting a message that reads "card not initialized". It is a new XD picture card. How do I initialize the card?

To initialize the new XD card, you go into the camera's setup menu and navigate to the format function. Format the card and you might be ready to go. If your new card has an "M" or an "H" preceeding the XD, your camera will need a firmware upgrade before it will recognize the card. Here's a link to the firmware upgrade procedure. http://www.fujifilm.com/products/digital/download/a340/fupd.html

Not initialized or card error

If your new card has an "H" or "M" before the 1Gb, your camera is probably not compatable with it unless a firmware upgrade is performed. This can be done by the user, with help and the software download from Fuji' website.

I cannot get card to work in my fuji finepix a 340 says write error inserted Olympus Xd picture card . ASfter attemting to take picture, rec'd message that it could not initialize.

If your new xD card is an "H" or "M" type card, it is only compatable with the A340 following a firmware upgrade to the camera. http://www.fujifilm.ca/x3721.xml is a link to the software and steps you can take to perform the upgrade.
