When you uninstalled the program, you did not actually remove all data the was originally placed on the system.
Get a program (free if you can) called REVO Uninstaller. Runs REVO and select uninstall Highland again. Now use the Left Over Scan option. When it seeks out left over data, the Blue Line will fill the entire line, meaning all data is now found. Hit "NEXT" and a new window appears. Hit select all and remove existing left over data. When done, turn off the computer and wait 10 seconds to turn on again. Now reinstall your game and try to paly it as usual.
Call nintendo, if there is something in the USB port in the back of the system then take it out, it could cause freezing with out disc. If all of your disc are not playing ( Unable to read disc please refer to the wii operation manual ) its a problem with the disc drive in the system, set up a repair.
i had the same problem, was playing assassins creed and was 15 min into the game when i heard the burrrrrr sound like some vibrations, but the game kept playing and i turned it off right away. didnt start up the box until christmas day i got guitar hero, tried to start it up in front of family and got the same results as you did opening and closing and not able to read any disk. found out that warrenty was out got desparate and even thought of a switch a roo with a refundable new one.
anyways found the problem! theres a magnet that sits on the disk spinner that came off and was not able to grasp game right. just found out now and glued it back in place and now waiting for it to dry, yeah i was like hell yeah problem solved. the tricky part is taking it apart, go to ; http://www.llamma.com/xbox/Repairs/repairs.htm

Try opening the disk tray with the 360 off.
Push a paper clip into 1 of these holes in your 360. It will pop the tray out. Grab the tray pull it out all the way. Put a game in, leave it open! Then turn your 360 on see if it boots the game.
"Your Disk tray might be going bad. It might be fixable but I will have to try it out on a bad drive which iI dont have at this time."
Your, dvd playing in your ps2, may be malfunctioning, your best bet is buying a ps2 dvd player, taking the old one out, and putting the new one in, and I guarantee that that will help you continue on your massive killing rampage on vice city.
