Question about Whirlpool GH8155XM Microwave Oven

2 Answers

Microwave troubleshooting... I have a Whirlpool GH microwave which just one day stopped heating.  I unplugged and replugged the device to see if it needed to "reset" prior to executing a basic troubleshooting plan.I found that the magnetron was bad and bought/replaced it.  Now when I turn on the microwave, a loud noise can be heard shortly before the fuse is blown.  I've disconnected the magnetron and started it up and found that it runs fine (other than the fact it does not heat).  Adding back the Mag. again causes the fuse to blow. The channel designed to carry the microwaves to the internal cavity is inaccessible due to spot welded sheilding.  My guess is that there is something wrong with protective circuitry/sensors/or similar that manages the load and use of the Magnetron, but I can't find any troubleshooting tips specific to the sensors, just basic schematics.  Any help would be appreciated.  Microwave is 7 years old with medium to high usage.

It blows the fuse after a few seconds of operation.  The operation is accompanied by a loud humming/buzzing definitely coming from the HV areas...Diode was my next guess as capacitor holds a charge and appears to be working.

I'll test both and report back.

I have a GE JVM1870SK03 Under cabinet microwave. Everything works, but does not heat. It also hums. I've replace the High Capacity Diode. That didn't work. I then changed out the magnetron and still it doesn't heat. I'm thinking that it may be the high voltage transformer? The fuse has never blown in any of my scenarios.

If it blows the fuse as soon as you hit the START button, it's almost certainly a shorted high-voltage capacitor.

If it blows a few seconds after you hit the START button, it's probably the high-voltage transformer. You'll possibly also smell a faint electrical burning smell from the rear vent after you shut if off.

If it blows the fuse as soon as it's plugged in, you probably have a shorted door switch, a shorted varistor, or an internally exposed wire shorting to the chassis, etc.

I would also replace the recitfier (diode) when replacing the capacitor.

Microwave wont heat

look at the $2.00 door safety interlock switch(s) before you replace the very expensive (and hard and dangerous) magnetron.

Everything works except the cooking part/no heating/turntable not turning, help!

you may have gotten a power surge and that can cause some funny things to happen, 1st is there power to the oven, 2nd if so there may be an internal fuse protector built in to the oven, check with the manual for anything of that sort listed. if not you may have to take it in and have it repaired by a pro. there is a lot of voltage in these ovens and unless you know what you are doing a person could get hurt

Whirlpool(GH7145XF2-0) does not work occasionally

That's how it would sound if you were cooking on a power level less than full power.

If you enter the cooking time and hit Start, it should cook at full power by default and not cycle like you describe.

If you are using some sensor cook setting or automatic type cooking setting, it may cycle like that normally.

The first thing to try is a "hard reset". Unplug it from the power line for a minute, plug it back in, set the clock, then try again.

Let us know if the hard reset doesn't fix it.

If you don't have your manual, you can download it free here. Check the lower right area to enter your model. number.
