Garmin gps 498.

The gps portion works fine, we are olnly talking about the sounder, finder. It will work if we sit still, if we are underway or there are rolling seas it stops working It has worked fine in the past and the through hull transducer look to be in fine shape. Do you have any suggestions? The gps works fine. the dept finder blinks 0.00. Can you test a bottom sounder before replacement of the transducer>?

I think the transducer is down too low. Raise it up so that the center of it is in line with the bottom of the boat.

My Garmin 498C will not show the contore of the bottom or give me a depth reading. The GPS works and will show me charts but, not the sounder option though.

You need to check to see if the depth sounder transducer is connected or functioning. It might be turned off, the connectors may be bad or the transducer is bad. I don't have the 498 manual in front of me but I think there is a test function under the setup menu. I'd check my connections (the usual suspect) then run that.

Garmin tech support is pretty good/quick. So don;t be afraid to give them a call.

I have a gps Map 498-depth sounder not working? Have new transducer from Garmin-it flashes "00"-it is not connected to boat yet (transducer)-need it be or can I put in a bucket of water (need it be in...

If the transducer is out of the water, you will not get a reading and see the flashing depth. You should hear and feel the clicking in the transducer when out of the water and working properly. Are you getting a temp reading when out of the water?

I have a garmin gpsmap 498, 4 yrs old. I have been loosing satellite reception. I have examined the coax cable- I do not see any issues. Where do I look?

Had same problem,,, you need to perform an "Auto-Locate" With unit plugged in but not turned on, push the Page and Power buttoms at the same time,,, continue to hold down the buttons until the "I Agree" message appears. Then release the buttons, agree by pushing Enter. The system will then go through an Auto Locate sequence that corrected my problem.

GARMI GPS 498

I would contact Garmin and get their price for a repair. Navigation is too important to trust to a repair that may or may not be correct. Just go to http://www.garmin.com and click on the support tab.

Thanks for using Fixya.com

NO DEPTH READING

Check the finder on the bottom of the boat and make sure the cable is ok?
