Question about Fuji FinePix S9000 Zoom Digital Camera

1 Answer

Finepix S9100 humming type motor noise

When ever I turn the camera on there is a motor type noise that does not stop. Almost sounds like the auto focus trying to run all the time.  Just got the camera used so I do not know what normal is for this camera.  All seems to work fine however. Any input?

There is a setting on the left side of the camera- you have it set to constantly focus. I had the same problem

addendum: the auto focus switch (AF) should be in the (S) position. Hope this helps.

How to fix my camera

Without having someone inspect the camera in person, it sounds as though a fault/defect has developed with the lens focus mechanism...that's about the only thing on this camera that's likely to make such a noise.

The first thing I would check is any focus options you have set in the menu. For example, is the camera set to continuous focus? That could keep the lens motor going constantly. If available, see if you have an option for spot focus or manual focus and if so, try setting it...that should, in theory, turn off the focus mechanism (and eliminate the noise).

If that solution don't help, unfortunately it may simply be time to replace the camera. The Finepix S3000 is an older 3.2 mp camera, which by today's standards is something of a dinosaur. Used, they're only worth $50 or less (I've seen a couple for as little as $15), so they're not really worth much effort at repair. Fuji makes some fine cameras, however like so many modern electronic devices today, they're simply not designed for longevity.

I have a Casio Exilim EX-Z33 and i dropped it a while ago and it continued to work (kind of, the images were a bit blurry). i took a picture five minutes ago and then turned it off. the lens went in but...

Sounds like the focus motor came loose - you need to take it apart and repair the gear that drives the lens assembly for focusing. The noise you're hearing is the motor trying to focus but since the lens cannot focus it continues to run and signals an error.

Weird noises when it's on and zoom button noise picked up on vid

change auto focus to single focus mode,
since it is on continuous auto focus on default, it would focus all the time so you don't need to click half way before taking a picture

The lens kit of my Sony DSLR A200 produces noise

If it's in continuous auto-focus and doing it, then it is just not locking on to one thing and jumping back and forth between two objects that are very close together in distance and it is normal. It should stop in manual, single shot or single point auto-focus. Sony uses Nikon auto-focus technology and my D-300 with a 70-200mmf2.8 will do it if I turn the auto-focus tracking time(lock-on) all the way down with the auto-focus in full auto.

55-200mm VR focus noise

The lenses have a focus motor built into them.when the camera is set to auto focus, once you press the shutter button, the motor activates to set the correct focus. VR is for motion stabilization. Turn off AF on lenses and camera and see if noise stops.

Lens error, weird buzzing sound

We just bought this camera today for our 12 year old son. We got it home and heard the same strange sound. I showed the camera to my husband who is a professional photographer, and he said the sound you are hearing is coming from the motor. If you look at your screen when this noise is happening you will see that it only makes the sound when the camera is trying to do the auto focusing. Once the camera focuses on the image, the sound stops. He said the sound is normal, and this is the way that this camera was designed. Once I looked at the screen I could see that he was right, when the camera focused on a face, or object, the sound stopped.

Video noise

When in video camera mode, press menu, and change auto focus mode from c (continuous) to s (single). The noise you hear is the auto focus motor going back and forth, trying to find the object focus constantly.
You can use this only if the object is not changing the distance to the camera while recording.

Camera will not auto focus

Take the lens off and rotate the focus ring, it should turn very easily with little gear noise.Try a different AF Pentax lens that you know is good.
I'm sure the lens is binding, take the lens to a camera repair shop for an estimate cost to repair.

Auto-focus isn't working

Try checking your settings for the type of shot you are taking and for the type of focus......
type of shot is the dial on the top, and then:
1) menu, metering
and also check your autofocus mode
2)menu, autofocus; try the single autofocus, it might be set to continual

Also, you could try updating the firmware in your camera. You do this through the Nikon website.
