Problems with cyberlink power dvd player in laptop

Hi, my Dell Inspiron 6000 laptop (Windows XP), has cyberlink power dvd installed.  Usually, it works just fine, but recently, it will not play certain dvds.  Others, it plays just fine.  One dvd was completely new and had played for me one night, the next day, it would not.  Other dvds which I have watched before, will not play.  The cyberlink screen comes up, but instead of giving me all the options, restart, resume, title, menu, it leaves those blank, whereas the eject and exit and help sections are able to be accessed.  Some will just not play, very frustrating!  Any tips?  Nothing has been changed system wise, it just suddenly happened and seems more like a fault in the drive than in the laptop itself. help!!!

I have the exact problem. I have an Inspiron 1501 with Vista Basic. This problem just popped up after I had the laptop about 5 months. THe Dell techs have yet to figure out what to do. It takes me 20-30 min to start a DVD and I mean a new DVD, not a copy! I just keep opening and closing the DVD drawer; that works somem of the time. The DELL tech suggested I play the DVD in windows media because it can read the program better. That worked for one day- then DVD did not play. I am asking for a new laptop. I'm tired of trying.

Dell inspiron 6000 keeps restarting, changed mother board, ram, dvd rom, still same problem? it gets to windows xp dessktop & in 3/5 min it restarts it self again nut funny thing it dosen't restart...

Sounds like you may have a corrupted/failing hard drive. If you have access to another hard drive, you can install another hard drive and install your OS and see if you still have the restarting problem.

If you check Dell's support site for your model you'll find the XP / Vista drivers. Just download and install and it will work with Win 7.

How do I install Windows Media Player 11 on my Windows XP SP3 Dell Inspiron 6000

Try Re-Installation, if it persist restore Factory Settings then RE-Install but if all this fails take it to a cafe near you LOG onto the Dell office you'll be able to solve it there.

Audio CD s fine. DVDs picture only.

Hi Sir,
The problem is with the codec that is require to play sound. You can resolve this by playing your DVD in another player like VLC media player or you will have to install the latest codec pack which supports major Audio and Video formats.

Following are the links to download both the VLC media player and K-Lite mega codec pack-
Download any one of them and install on your system.I am pretty sure this will resolve your problem.

To Download VLC media player -

No dvd installed

If it's a DVD movie that you cannot play then you need a special program like powerdvd to run it.
windows media player can also do it :http://en.kioskea.net/faq/sujet-224-playing-dvds-in-windows-media-player

Cannot play dvds as drivers lost when changing from vista to xp home.when enter dvd it says dvd decoder and drives lost

If you are running XP, you will need to install a DVD playback application. IN VIsta, DVD playback is native to WIndows, in XP, Dell used a program called Cyberlink PowerDVD. You can either buy PowerDVD on line or download a free DVD playback application from places like Download.com. I've had good luck with the AVS DVD player here:

http://www.download.com/AVS-DVD-Player/3000-7970_4-10491860.html?cdlPid=10669161

If you just installed XP on this system, it is also important that all the drivers are installed and in the correct order. Dell's preferred order is:

Notebook System Software
Chipset Utility
Video Driver
Sound Driver
Modem Driver
Network Driver
Wireless Driver
Touchpad Driver
Quickset Utility

Drivers are available here:
