Reformat a write protected flash drive

A write-protected flash drive is a device that has been locked to prevent any changes or modifications to its contents. To reformat a write-protected flash drive, you will need to remove the write protection before proceeding with the reformatting process. Here are a few steps you can try:
  1. Check the flash drive for a physical switch: Some flash drives have a physical switch on the side or bottom that can be used to enable or disable write protection. Check your flash drive for a switch and make sure it is not in the locked position.
  2. Use diskpart command: Open the Command Prompt as an administrator and type "diskpart", press enter. Then type "list disk" to list all the disks and find the disk number of the flash drive. Type "select disk x" (x is the disk number of the flash drive), then type "attributes disk clear readonly" to remove write protection.
  3. Use Registry Editor: If the above steps didn't work, you can try editing the registry to remove the write protection. Open the Registry Editor by typing "regedit" in the Start menu search bar. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\StorageDevicePolicies and look for the key WriteProtect. If it exists, set its value to 0.
  4. Format the drive: Once the write protection has been removed, you can reformat the flash drive by going to the Windows Disk Management tool or by using the "Format" option in the "Computer" or "This PC" window.
Note: Be aware that reformatting will erase all the data on the flash drive, make sure you have a backup of the important data before proceeding with the reformatting process.

How to reformat r430 samsung

Steps to reformat:

1. If you do not already have the Operating System (OS) software, download and burn it to a cd or make a flash drive bootable.

2. Put in the disk or plug in the flash drive and Turn off the computer.

3. Turn on the computer, and as soon as you see the samsung logo, Press Delete (around 3-5 times). And you should get to the BIOS screen.

4. In the bios, look for startup/boot options and set the first boot device to CDROM or if booting from a flash drive choose Removable Disk.

5. Save and quit the bios and the computer will reboot.

6. Once the computer passes the Power On Self Test (POST), it will automatically check for the first boot device (CD or Removable). If found, it will prompt you to boot from the boot disk. Press any key or Y for yes.

7. Follow the prompts from there.

NOTE: It is usually best practice to do a clean install removing any prior data from the hard drive.

Laptop boots up then screen goes black with a flashing white dash in top left cornor and nothing else happens

Wow, that dash usually means:
  • there is no hard drive, or
  • operating system or
  • key files in windows are corrupted or
  • your disk has been damaged or has a mechanical failure.

If your computer takes 25-30 minutes to boot up, you have obvious windows or hard drive errors or corrupt data.

You can check this hint on disk errors but my guess is you have lost your disk and all the data. You might be able to put the disk into a second computer and retrieve some data.

I do this for fun and feed back, not $$$$

When trying to use my sandisk removable media on any computer, i am told the drive is unformatted and must be reformatted before it can operate. i already have valuable data on this media and don't want to...

I would try it on another computer first. See if you can plug it into a friends, at work or even someone's mac and see if it recognizes. If it does, simply transfer the files to cd's or dvd's. Hope this works.

Apple Macintosh PowerBook G3 Start-up problem

Your mac doesn't recognize the system folder. Try to find the original boot disks that came with the machine, and see if you can mount the hard disk while booting from the CDs. If you can, I'd backup the data as soon as possible and reinstall the operating system, including a full hard drive reformat. If you can't see the hard drive from the boot cd, another option is to hold down the T key during startup to boot the mac into "target disk mode" - this will allow you to hook up the g3 to another computer as an external hard disk in order to back up the data.

Not booting. "disk read error occurred"

This means you HDD is either corrupt or faulty, try downloading a copy of Hirens BCD to try to access the HDD (or use and external HDD enclosure) and if you can, put it back in the laptop, if not reformat it and reinstall windows.

Asking to format not reading floppies

I can tell you just what I told someone else with the same problem a minute ago. Your computer doesn't support the floppy format you saved the data on the disk with. All you can really do is try putting the disk in every computer you can find until one of them reads it. So, basically, there may not be much you can do. Personally, I hate removable disks. I have that same problem with CDs all the time.
Well, good luck.
