I turn the heating/air fan on, the fan will not go
The heating/air fan will not go on; the yellow light on the air conditioner as well as the yellow light on the air circulation button start blinking. I have the same problem with mine. I thought it was the blower motor, but then I had taken it to a guy who knows a little bit more about Volvos than I do. And he told me that it was the auto-climate-control-unit and not the blower motor. I called the dearlership and was told it would be around $2500.00 to order a new one. I was able to able to order a used one off ebay for $30.00. I got it today and just hooked it up, and it's the same problem. So maybe it is my motor or I bought a nonworking unit.
The same guy who told me it was the unit, also told me that when those two lights start flashing it means your unit is fried.
Where would this be located at? And how much would it cost? I live in a small city, there's not any mechanics that know anything about a Volvo. And the one dealership that sells them is predominantly a Chrysler dealership, so the mechanics there don't know a thing either. I called the junkyards here and they don't have any S70s. I'm a college student working part time in the mall. I barely make enough to fill my tank with premium, let alone pay an outrageous amount to have it fixed.

completely understand that, if my junyard specialized in volvo i would help you out but were all about toyota here. Its more like a computer that controls it all. that is bad.

Normal, the ac heat exchanger condenser need air moving across the fins to remove the heat. While
moving in town the condenser isn't remove the meat that is building up the it's
aluminum fins. Even though the vehicle uses an electric fan. The fan is used to
cool the engine temperature. If you Toyota is equip-ed with automatic
transmission. The electric fan will need to pull enough air to cool the engine
temperature, automatic transmission fluid, air conditioner condenser, and maybe
power steering condenser to cool the power steering fluid. Later model of
vehicles/trucks are using different refrigerants instead R134A in which you
Toyota uses.
The simples way to explain is the ac remove heat from inside your Toyota and this heat is removed by the refrigerants inside your ac in the car. To cool the refrigerant this coolant is removed to the heat exchanger condenser located in front of the engine radiator. So, while moving at 60mph there is enough air flow through the radiator, ac head condenser, and other aluminum heat exchangers. GB...stewbison
Several things ... best guess, in order: 1. (very likely) Radiator fan is not blowing (turn on car and a/conditioner. When compressor kicks in, the radiator fan must blow). If it ims not blowing, the radiator fan motor may be burned out ($40). 2. Check / replace "cooling fan" fuse ($1) and / or "cooling fan" relay switch ($7). 3. Radiator clog (possible) Hope this helps!
1. Does the cooling fan turn on when it over heats? 2. Check your coolant level, if it is a little low it will cool normally under transit and over heat in the conditions you are describing. Also have your coolant check for proper dilution. 3. If your cooling fan is failing to turn on you may have a coolant temperature switch issue.
If the fuse is blowing there is too much resistance in the cooling fan moter. Replace JUST the cooling fan motor and the fuse. The A/C always turns the cooling fan ON when turned on. That is why the A/C messes up when the fan motor is bad. Replace the fan motor and the A/C problem will be fixed too. :)
