Look at your memory card. SD cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the metal contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card.

Camera shows write protect when open

When what is open? Always keep the battery / memory card door closed. If it is not closed correct, the camera won't work as expected. To protect the file system, when someone should pul out the memory card, while the camera is accessing the memory, it will or shut down completely, or at least protect the memory card against writing to it.
Before opening the battery / memory card cover, always make sure the camera is completely shut off. That means no light is allowed to burn or flicker. The memory card can also be write protected (SD cards) when the lock switch is down like in the picture on the 32GB card.
Before you can make any picture the switch on the card should be up like on the 64GB card on the picture. 3635bcf4-65df-478c-a04d-92e341d15860.jpg

What's your problem? While trying to take a picture it keeps coming up with write projects and won't allow me to take the picture

I assume it's actually saying "write protect" and not "write project".

Whenever I try to take a picture it want take. I keep seeing protected card

Possible that the card has the small lever on it pulled down so that it protects from over wrting.
So remove the card and look on the side for aa small switch showing a direction to protect, move it off and it will allow the card to write again.

How to protect pictures so they do not get deleted

Best way is to only delete them 1 by one. Another is to transfer files (pictures) to your computer delete the ones you don't want, format your card and then put the ones you want to keep on your camera back. You can't delete just a few pictures. I carry 3 memory cards. one just has the pictures I want to show people. I load that card from my computer. The other 2 are like great big rolls of film that let me take lots and lots of pictures without the worry of running out of film. I transfer the pictures I want to show people on my camera to the third one and keep the other 2 erased. Most of my pictures are only on my computer and backed up on DVD's.

My memory card in my camera keeps saying its protected

Hi there, My name is Rob and I can help you. Do this:

Make sure the camera is off and pull out the SD card. Look on the side of the card. You will see a little switch. One side says locked (or shows a little picture of a locked lock) the other side says unlocked (or shows a little picture of an unlocked lock). Make sure the switch is in the unlocked position and reinsert it properly into the camera.

This will fix your problem. Thanks for coming to FixYa. Let me know if I can be of anymore help. Don't forget to rate my answer a fixya!

Protected feature

There are 2 probable solutions. 1. The images are "protected" by the camera & will show "locked" when you try to erase them. 2. The SD card in the camera is locked. The solution to 1 is to unlock the images in the playback menu. See page 46 of the manual. Note that you need to select "unlock" you can't select protect as they are already protected! Solution 2 is to remove the card from the camera & check the "lock" slider that you can see on the side (although no all cards have this). Set the lock off. You can download the manual from the first link on the following page: http://www.vivitar.com/manuals/english/ViviCam6300/CameraManual.pdf Please update the question & let us know if the information given was useful to you - Good Luck!
