Question about Apple MacBook Air 13.3" Core 2 Duo 2.13GHz/2GB/128GB SSD/nVidia 9400M Mac Notebook
System turns on. Both resets SMC and PRAM don't do anything. Sometimes the drive is found when using the option boot somtimes it is not. You cannot install new OSX onto new drive but you can boot from some of the drives.
I use an external drive to boot from with Techtools 7 installed. I would test permissions, and then file integrity and see what it finds.
If the OS is corrupt it will prevent bootup. It could also be a failing SSD. First try Holding down "D" immediately after the dong sound and the Apple hardware test will start. Use the arrow key to choose your language.
Follow the instructions and when it is done it will show an error code if there is a problem. Post that code and I can give you more info on the problem. Chris

SOURCE: Macbook keeps restarting
all macbooks have a security that will not let you switch the harddrive from one the the other. Apple will need to reset the computer at an Apple store!!! His drive is DEAD!!!

SOURCE: Flashing folder icon at startup
Fixed it myself. Here's how:
Put a DVD of Mac OS Leopard in the optic drive and restart with the C key held down. THIS time it responds and gives me a complete launch, however I did have to reformat the Hard Drive using the Disk Utility on the OS disk. It also required me to use the GUID table format on the options menu button... look for it...
Then after reformatting, I was able to reload the OS and at least I was able to save a MOBO swap...
Cool beans and I'm up and running..

go to system preferences and select sound button
check out the output tab int window, if output volume is disabled it means there is some problem with hardware. I had a similar problem it turned out that speaker wires where disconnected.

Just a note--any Universal retail OSX install disc will work. It's only a machine specific disc that won't unless it's for your model.
