Try this;
Run the recovery tool from the SanDisk website. Make sure you select "format" when prompted.
http://www.sandisk.com/Assets/File/Downloads/firmware/e200fw01.00.12.exe
You need to put the device into "recovery mode" before you run the tool.
- Turn the device off (hold power for 20 seconds)
- Slide the hold switch into "hold" position.
- Press and hold the "record" button while connecting it to your computer. Keep holding the "record" button until you see the "new hardware found" on your computer.
Then run the recovery tool. Select format when prompted.
Best of Luck.

I downloaded the updater as per your solution. In trying to run it, it gets as far as saying I am in MSC mode and when I then click to continue, it fails saying "ERROR ! Application failed to read the version details." I cannot get any further. I am unable to access the menu on this machine. I often get to the point where it says the database is refreshing, but the bar never moves and it never completes. There is some difference if I remove the 2GB extra memory, but it still never completes and comes back to my control. PLEASE HELP if at all possible. Thank you very much !!
