Yes, I'm exacly the same. I'd rather not replace because up until it started making this noise, it worked very well. Is there a belt inside which is slipping?
Having posted that I have the same problem and been irritated by the off-the-cuff 'replace it' :-| remark below, I decided to try and fix. It took two (2) minutes with no replacement parts or labour costs.
Open the lid which has the Epson badge on it, the one right above the smoked plastic covering the manual paper feeder. You'll see six (6) small copper coloured metal flaps which touch 6 separate shiney/chrome metal rollers. On our machine, the 3rd copper flap had bent and was stopping the print head moving past it, hence making the aweful racket.
I bent the copper thing back into place with a Swiss army knife pliers and bob's your uncle! I saved myself £2,500 replacement costs and all the hassle of sourcing, installation, etc...
My Epsom 3000 Printer is making a grinding noise on start up and continues until all the panel lights come on. It goes like this for a while through several start ups and until recently once it has got over this will print ok. When I switch it off the whole process starts again and now it is permantly grinding. Help!
