For two years, my new Lexmark worked like a champ for copying, scanning, and printing, over my home wireless network. Then it started getting flaky and would stop printing. I resolve that annoying problem now by removing the printer and reinstalling. But now, the scanning function has stopped working (except with the primitive Windows Fax and Scan program). Each time I request a scan be sent to my laptop, I get the above error message. Help.
If the primitive (as you call it) Windows Scan program is working then there is no problem with the machine. It can connect to the computer.
I suspect that the other (non primitive) scanning software is not configured correctly. It may be using a wrong driver. You may have installed some other device that is able to scan (such as a program that capture screens from calculators) and it has been set as default driver. Check the configuration of your scanning software.
i think it may be a problem with the ports and/or IP address.
back in the day when it worked, a network report had a different IP address listed for the printer, whereas it had changed to a non-IP-looking address of 10.10.1.1 or something recently. i've been poring over the lexmark knowledgebase fiddling with all kinds of stuff, but so far no luck...
If you say that Windows Scan works, then there is no problem with the network. I may be wrong.
i'm wondering whether my smartphone's being in the wireless network has anything to do with the problem... it's possible my problems (with intermittent printing and scanning flakiness) started about the time i got my smartphone. early on, i tried but failed to get my smartphone to recognize the all-in-one. maybe that somehow altered the configuration somewhere. maybe i should uninstall the lexmark program and reinstall it with the smartphone turned off...
My Epson has wireless and it is connected to two computer wirelessly through my router. Both computers know where it is and can initiate a scan from Windows or Linux. But try as I may I cannot get it to scan from its comamnd panel. It is normal because it does not know to which computer to scan. All it wants is to scan through the USB port which is not being used. It does not scan even if only one computer is on.

SOURCE: Lexmark X2400... have one.. apparently it doesn't exist to anyone else? anyway...
According to Lexmarks site, they will be producing a driver that you can download for the X2400 to work with Vista shortly. They don't have a driver for Vista yet.
Sorry, you will have to wait or buy a new printer.
Good Luck
SOURCE: Scanner and copier not working
You have a problem with printer need to contact Lexmark your scanner is probably broken.
The Vista drivers available on the Lexmark website do not contain the All-In-One Center. They are minimum drivers. Although the scan drivers are shipped with the web package, they cannot be used by the All-In-One Center since it is not included. Please use Windows Scanners and Cameras or Photo Gallery for Scanning.

Hi Guys,
I had the same problem. This problem is related to name resolution on your network, maybe due to old cache on arp table( every time you turn the power off you are not using the ip address that the server gave to your printer so there is a time to expire, when expired your printer or your computer get a new ip address and then the name linked to that old ip address cause the problem).
To solve this issue just click at windows start
Remember, when you leave you computer off for long time or the pinter is not working, check you ip address again.

A quick fix for most communication errors can be
achieved by resetting the printer and/or rebooting the PC. Simply disconnect
the printer from your computer. Reboot your pc. Unplug and re-plug the printer
into the power source to reset it. When the printer turns on, reconnect it to
your computer. Then try to print again once the computer fully recognizes the
USB connection.
If that doesn't help, try the steps below:
1. Disconnect the printer from your computer.
2. Re-brick your printer.
Pull out the power supply, black box where the power cord is plugged in at the
back of the printer, and put it back after 30 seconds.
2. On your computer, go to Control Panel > Printers
and Faxes.
3. Delete the Lexmark print object.
4. Reboot your pc.
5. When your pc turns on, reconnect the printer.
6. Wait until your pc fully recognizes the USB connection. To check, go to Control Panel > Printers and Faxes. If you see a new Lexmark print object in the list, then try to print a document again to verify that the problem is fixed.
