Question about Logitech Harmony 670 LCD Remote Control

3 Answers

System error Remote has worked fine for months.  Got a low battery warning, then when we tried to replace batteries, then a "system error. disconnect usb then reinsert batteries".  Have connected and unconnected usb, and replaced batteries several times.  Now we only get this error.

i am having exactly the same problem with a 688 that i have had for years. It has been working just fine. i went to plug it in to tweak a setting and it was not recognized. i down loaded the "new" software from the website and still nothing, so i followed their troubleshooting steps of removing the batteries and plugging it into the USB port now all i get is "System Error 1". I put batteries back in and still get the error screen. Remote is now totally useless. I was just telling a friend yesterday how much i like the remote!

Same problem with my 628. And Logitech's harmony software doesn't even mention "system error" in its troubleshooting or FAQs. Does anyone have a fix??

How did you manage to disassemble the remote?

I get the same error after replacing the batteries in my 670. Same story has worked fine for over a year, replaced batteries before with no problem. Contacted Harmony support. We'll see if we get a response.

I just talk to Logitech's support and they showed me how to reset the memory.

  1. Take the batteries out
  2. Hold down the 'Off' button and connect the USB to the computer
  3. The screen on the remote will read that you are in 'Safe' mode
  4. Update the Firmware
  5. Unplug the USB and put the batteries back in the remote
It should work now.

I'll second Tailgear's suggestion. I just did the same thing for the same problem and a new remote will be on its way soon. Unfortunately it is backordered. Fortunately it was under warranty. No known fix otherwise. I disassembled my old one and looked for anything obvious. I found nothing.

My harmony remote had the "system error 1"  I called Logitech and they said that it is a hardware failure and the remote is faulty.  After about 3 days they issued an RMA and sent me a new remote with no questions asked.  I didn't even have to send the old one back!  It took them a little while to get the ball rolling, but it did work.

Hi. Sadly I have some bad news for you. "System error 1" on a Harmony remote means that there is a hardware failure in the memory module of the remote. This can not be fixed by updating the firmware. When I contacted Logitech about this issue in the past, they replaced my remote because it was still in warranty, I would advise getting in contact with them to get it sorted out.

My logitech H628 Harmony remote displays System Error a message

Unfortunately, system error one is apparently a hardware issue. It means something about the memory being lost in your Harmony Remote. I had to get a replacement Harmony Remote from Logitech but you would have to see if you are still in your warranty period!!!

I hope you are so you can get a replacement!!! =)

I parked the car for 4 months killed the battery got a new battery installed by mini dealer but the remote key wont work

MINI owner's manual warns against leaving the car sitting for long periods of time without disconnecting the battery. IIRC, you will have to have the remote "reprogrammed", as the memory for the remote function is reset from lack of power.
