D-Link 514 model

My wireless router has always worked fine until I bought a new laptop and now the new laptop will not connect to the wireless router. It keeps asking me for a key but I have forgotten it. How do I fix this problem please?

Check these Steps .

After logging in with your user id and password, the Home > Wizard screen appears.

Click Wireless from the menu on the left side of the screen.     2. The Home > Wireless screen appears.

Let's look at each of these fields in detail.

Wireless Radio: by default, the wireless radio is on. To turn off the radio and disable all wireless functions, select Disabled.

SSID: This is the name of the WLAN. By default, the SSID name is default. This field can be used to either connect to a pre-existing WLAN or create a new WLAN.

Channel: this field displays the current wireless channel. The default setting is channel 1. You can have the router automatically select the best channel to use by selecting the Auto Select option.

Proceed to the next step to learn about the remaining fields.     3.  Mode Setting: If your network is using only 802.11g devices, set this option to G Mode. Otherwise, set this option to Mix Mode.

SSID Broadcast: Select Enabled to broadcast the SSID from the SSID field to the entire network.

Security: From this drop-down list, select the type of security (WEP, WPA, and WPA2) you wish to enable for the network. The default setting is Disable. See the WEP & WPA Setup walk through for more details on setting up security.

Click the Apply button to apply any changes you make

The key number will be listed in the router settings as you must have security enabled in the router, if you cannot find it then simply reset the router at the rear of the unit and start again as there will be no security key number and all the settings will be back to factory default.

I'd check the manual for all your answers.

You can download yours HERE.

Make sure you choose the correct revision. Your router will say which version you have.

Hope this helps!

Let me know if you have any more questions or problems.

Best of luck!

Trouble creating wireless access point from D-Link DI-514 router

1. Connect a pc to the router using a cable (wireless won't work)
2. Open a browser and type in:
3. Login with username: admin password: (blank)
4. Browse around the menus until you find a setting similar to "use as access point" and select it.
5. Save settings and log out.
6. Connect a cable from a port on your main router to this router's internet/wan port.

D-LINK DI-514 LAN Ports not working

  1. Connect a cable from your PC to one of the four plugs. Not the WAN port.
  2. Setup the wireless the way you want it.
  3. Then give this router a different IP, like
  4. Then you have to disable the DHCP server in the router (keep in mind now you have to set your desktop or laptop that is conencted to it to a static IP to still communicate with the router)
  5. Once this is done just plug you existing network into one of the four ports. Not the WAN port.
  6. It will now act as a wirelessa access point.
Althoug this is doable it is not recommended as this router is a pile of **** and the wireless is crappy.

I would suggest a dedicated wireless access point.

Which d link pcmcia card will work with a d-link 514 wireless router?

Hello pig86

Your router is uses the 802.11b wireless standard. You can use a PC card that works w/ 802.11g or 802.11b. Those that are compatible w/ the 802.11g standard are also "backward compatible". In other words, they will also work w/ the older 802.11b wireless standard.

You don't have to purchase a PC card made by the same manufacturer as your router. You can mix and match manufacturers of your networking hardware/equipment just fine. They all adhere to the same industry standards.

As for choosing a specific PC card for your laptop, we'll need to know the make (manufacturer) and model of your laptop.

We will also need to know what operating system your are running on your laptop. (We want to make sure that drivers would be available for the PC card when running w/ your operating system.)

If you'd like us to help you w/ that, just post back here w/ that information and we'll be happy to.

For documentation on your router, please, go HERE.

Please, let me know if this response was "Helpful" or "FixYa" for you or, of course, if you have more questions, etc on this topic.

If I did not answer your question satisfactorially, plz, b4 assigning a "Thanks for Trying" or lower rating to my "Solution", let me know. I may have misunderstood you or the problem you are experiencing.

In any case, I will work w/ you until your problem is resolved or diagnosed. I promise! :)

Thank you
