Same thing just happened to my DEGX1. I took it apart and one of the
heating elements had broken and fell to the bottom of the metal case.
I think it was creating a short to ground and making it heat. I
removed the broken element wires and attached them back best I could
and did a test run with no problems. It is not heating when off now
either. searspartsdirect.com had the elements for $67 so I ordered a
set and will replace both of them (part #395583).
My dryer is only 4 years old and 3 weeks ago the driver belt broke.
Irritating they can't make them last any longer these days.
