Can't finalising the recorded discs, and can't record at high speed from SKY box to DVD recorder.

If you can't find someone with the same recorder you could try putting the DVD into a computer DVD drive. It might be possible to get the video files off the DVD. DVD files are called VOB. You can get free software that will play them. It might even rip the files from the disc for you. You can then transfer them to a DVD disc using the computer.

DVD-RW discs are ideal for temporary video recording and data backup, but they are not recommended for successful finalising, as there is no guarantee that the disc will work in another device.

Have you tried using DVD-R discs? these CAN be recorded in video mode AND finalised for compatible playback in other players. I assume the DMR-ES30V is a DVD/VCR combo unit - if so, the DVD recorder will not recognise RW discs; only DVD-RAM and DVD-R.

DVD-R discs are recommended for video recording and finalising in this model. (later model Panasonic DVD recorders allow RW disc recording).

Depending on the format of the DVDs you record, some may not be compatible for playback on other DVD players, even if you FINALISE the disc in this recorder before playing it anywhere else. Assuming you are using the correct DVD format (for example, DVD-R), did you finalise the disc in this recorder after transferring your tape? if not, that would be the reason why the DVD won't play in another machine (I am also assuming you have everything set up correctly to enable smooth transferring - picture, sound, etc.).

Most modern DVD players recognise various disc formats (+R/-R/-R DL etc) but all of these must be finalised in the appropriate drive prior to make playback anywhere else possible. There should be a menu option or similar on this model recorder which would allow you to finalise the recording - you should only do this if you are completely happy with what you recorded, and it turned out OK. Until you finalise the recorded disc it will not work anywhere else but the deck it was written in.

I hope there is no major issue with the deck in this unit which would prevent you from finalising your discs - and achieving some success with playback in other units. The last thing anyone would want is a batch of drink coasters.

I have a toshiba Hdd & DVD / Video Recorder However I can not get it to work with my Sky setr up If I set thimer recording it does not work when I turn it on it will only work pn channels that are not from sky it will not instant record nor will it record programmes prerecoreded of sky HDD it will record everthing other than what I want.

yes when you have finished the recording and preferably when the disc is full the disc must be finalised to be compatible with other players but be aware if you finalise a disc you cannot record on it anymore

Press the menu button on your remote - go to finalize disc - follow instructions. Note that VR discs can be played with many if not most DVD-players without finalizing. In fact I have had problems finalizing and unfinalizing discs back and forth. If the disc manager displays only unfinalize disc, the disc is already finalized.

You need to connect up the Sky+ to your recorder via scart. This will eliminate poor picture quality. The Sky box will be on ext1 on your recorder or something like that

You need to put the disk back into the recorder, select the finalize function from the onscreen menu, and follow prompts. Do you have an owners manual for the unit?
