Can you provide the exact Make, Model and Kenmore model number? ..........
Kenmore model numbers use the format ###.######## with the first three digits of 110 for Whirlpool manufactured machines.........
The model number on top load washers is usually found by lifting the lid and looking above the tub.
The Fixya numbers are Stock Numbers.
Since basic top load direct drive, top load electronic and front load washers are very different, the actual Model Numbers are necessary to correctly diagnose the problem.
Slipping on direct drive washers is usually caused by a damaged / broken Motor Coupler or clutch.
If yours is a direct drive machine, see the following:
all front loaders do is save alittle water, motor and pumps aree almost the same, kenmore makes the 300,400,500,600,series know and they will last forever, and if you do need a replacement part they are dirt cheap, because all parts are universal-mike

FRONT LOADERS
Look at following areas for the model number:
* Rear Center Of Door Well * Left Upper Back On Base Cabinet * Back Top Control Panel * Right Rear Corner Of Washer Door * Open Lower Left Front Base
most top loaders use belt drives, it sounds as one of the belts has snaped. can you see a belt laying around a pully or on the floor of the washer that has come away , or a pully with out anything to turn it.
Could be the pump itself or the belt driving it... many of the older type washers run the pump off of a drive belt and many of these pumps get clogged with material so that they do not pump... usually, you can unbolt the pump and seperate the pump casing to access the impellor and clean out the insides.. As always.. be certain to unplug the washer first..
Hope this helps
sounds like a broken motor coupling( this machines equivelent to a belt. part number 285753a . mounts directly to the motor shaft and connects to the transmission, order a new one it installs between the motor and transmission, assy
