I have attempted to finalize a DVD after viewing the footage.

The video was there, I went to finalize the DVD and at the end of the finalizing process, the screen came up with Data Error. Now I do not know what to do. Have I lost my video. Is there another way to finalize that will allow the raw footage to be saved as a movie?

Try to use sony discs they are already formatted for sony video cams. less likely to getting errors. try putting it in a cpu and finallize from its burner drive. if not basically you have lost all the footage.

I have tried to finalise the disc but it is frozen at finalising please wait, how long should it take I am worried I will lose the footage, thanks

Hi mark_carruth,

If the video is too long , then probably you would have to wait for quite a long time,

Therefore a better way is to shoot video at specific intervals , as it would create different files for each footage , so even if you lose one file , you have the others with you.

Now , in this case , I would advice you to please wait till the time you get the disc finalized and even if it's not finalized , and the disc has been written , then there is not much to worry as you might lose only a small part of the footage towards the end or ,you might not lose any part but the DVD might not work or be detected in PCs. It might be shown up as a blank one , which you know is not.

Hope this helps ..:)

Hi..I have a Panasonic VDR-D160GN video camera. I only know the basics of its use. eg, I know i have to format/initialize a new disc and have to finalize it before playing it somewhere else other than in...

When i have had that happen to a customer i have had to replace the dvd drive assy to take of the problem. Your videos on your disc should still be retieveable once the drive has been replaced, also ask for any firmware updates for your drive assy. I hope this helps

I just used my Sony minidv camcorder yesterday with a mini dvd +R disc and it worked fine. Turned it off while not in use and went to use it again later and it reads disc error. This is the second disc...

VIDEO mode You can play back the disc on most of DVD players if you finalize it.
VR mode You can edit, delete pictures, or divide movies on your camcorder However, the disc can be played back only on DVD players that support VR mode when you finalize it.

DVD issue

The delete option is for a DVD-RW and will not be highlighted when there is a DVD-R. And once a DVD has been finalized you cannot un-finalize. If it is a DVD-R the disc can not be changed after being finalized. If it is a DVD-RW you can format the disc after it has been finalized. This process will erase everything on the disc but it can be used again.

Recorder fails during 92% finalizing.

The free CDBurnerXP Pro is supposedly able to close unclosed disks, but I have never figured out how to do it. Maybe you'll be luckier than me or the newer version is more user friendly.

Download footage from my sony HDR-cx100 to mac

You can view your footage with VLC. The best way to import your files is with Final Cut Pro's Log and Transfer.

I want the pictures and video off my DVD-RW on to my computer

Yes, you must finalize to view the dvd in a stand-alone dvd player.

No, battery doesn't have to be charged but the camera does have to be plugged in to do finalizing.

After, finalizing the disk, and you are in fact using DVD-RW (re-writable) disks, yes you can un-finalize them within the Canon camera to record more video.

I have used the same 3 rewritable disks on my Canon over and over again to record many hours of footage.

Canon DC95

Hi all you need to do is have it powering with the a/c adapter plugged in and into the wall it will then finalize. It wont do it if you do not have power going to it. You would think they would put this in the instructions.
