GE Upright Freezer problem/door

The door no longer makes swoosh vacuum sounds when closing. also the bottom of the freezer is thawing out.   I did defrost the freezer, but this didn't help the problem.  Any other ideas?

The door seal is damaged or the hindge alignment have allowed the warm air to enter and the cold air to leak out the of the freezer. Look and feel around the door for the cold air and check the top and bottom hinges to make sure they haven't become loose. Look for tears also around the seal because this will do the same thing. Let me know what you find. JT

Check the door switch is being closed when the door closes. The door may have dropped just enough to allow the switch not to be activated by the edge of the door.

Door seal not tight on upright freezer

Check the door sits straight and square on the front. You can "adjust" with the heel of your hand to make it sit flat against the frame. Even a poor seal shouldn't make frozen food thaw - check and clean the condenser and fan

Vacuum relief port on all upright freezers allows easy re-entry after door closings. This is located on the door bottom.

Are you sure compressor is running? If it is make sure the evap fan is running. You should be able to hear the fan when you open the door. If ypou do not hear a fan running then fan has gone bad. 4390914 and approx cost is rediculous in my mind but it is approx. 150.00 to 160.00 . Crazy for a fan motor.

GE Freezer Not Freezing

I am not an expert, but if the defrost heater is not working, then maybe when it was unpluged the coils didn't completly unthaw. If not, the freezer still will not cool properly.

Kenmore upright freezer not cold enough to freeze

Sounds like a door seal that isn't sealing all the way around. That would be my first replacement. Is the unit level back to front and side to side? Is it really full of food?

Call your local appliance parts house and get a magnetic door seal first. They aren't that expensive. But make sure you do not have the freezer overloaded, which could account for the lack of that vacuum sound.

Finally, is self defost? Even if it is, a lot of times the vent on the bottom in the back gets packed with ice. If it is, remove the food and use a hairdryer, being carefull to unplug the freezer first. Melt all that ice and empty your overflow tray at the bottom underneath.

Good luck!

Bubbling sound coming from the bottom of my freezer

There is a vacuum build up in the freezer compartment when you close the door. This can make the door difficult to open. You can overcome this by sticking a small lollipop stick to the bottom part of the door gasket. This will act as a vacuum breaker.

Upright freezer--manual defrost

I would check that the door gasket makes good contact with the cabinet. If it does then I would check the temp inside the cabinet. If you have large buildups of ice on the evaporator coils then I would suggest defrosting the freezer and see if that makes a difference. Hope this helps.
