NV4 Display Driver has stopped working normally.

My monitor keeps going black and sometimes it will come back on and other times I have to restart the computer. I just got a message "NV4 display driver has stopped working normally." I have a Gateway PC that runs on Windows XP.

I created the folder and did the download and then I deleted the old NVIDIA software. I installed the new NVIDIA and it seemed okay all day but now it's going black again!!! I hope I did it right because I will be the first to admit I am not that smart about this part of computers. I mostly just know how to operate them but not fix them! Also, I keep losing my internet connection! Aaagh!!!!

Download the latest driver from Once you have updated your drivers this should correct the problem, if not your onboard video adaptor may be failing. Have you tried an external card?

Create a folder on your desktop & name it NVIDIA driver. Click on the NVIDIA link provided below;

Use Option 2 & download the latest driver software into the NVIDIA driver folder you created.
Do not install new graphics driver software over top of older graphics driver software!
Open control panel than open Add/Remove programs icon. Find the current NVIDIA graphics software & uninstall it. Restart your system if windows request it.
Download & run the free program named RegCure from the next link;
This will clean your system. Than install the NVIDIA software. Restart your system even if windows does not want you too.
Lastly, check windows for updates.

I have to ask. Did you follow the instruction in order as I posted?
There is a difference between uninstalling driver software & deleting software.
The process of uninstalling (Through windows Add/Remove?), allows windows to remove driver files in a more efficient fashion. Where windows is less efficient of the removal of redundant or non used windows registry keys. (That is one RegCure's jobs)

Has the error message returned in conjunction with your monitor going blank/black?
(NV4 display driver has stopped working normally) If no, I suggest you try swapping out the monitor & see if your display goes blank/black. Most monitors have an off/on button. Most monitors on/off button turns green when powered on & receiving a single from the PC system. Monitors will go into standby mode when not receiving a single where as the green led will turn to amber & the display will go blank/black. To test your system, try swapping the monitor & check if another monitor also enters standby mode.

In order to address your intermittent internet connection tell me who your internet service provider is. Do you connect through a local telephone line? Do you connect through a DSL modem or cable modem?

Hundai Imgaequest L70N keeps showing " video mode not supported"i What went wrong? . It is in standard refresh and I can't change it. I can restart in safe mode but then what+

If you restart in safe mode, you need to go to the display settings, and choose a resolution that will work. When you restart back into normal mode, this setting should be retained, and you will be back to normal.

Hi. I think you have uninstall your display driver and download the updated drivers on the Lenovo driver support website.

Go to this website and download the video driver for your laptop:
just make sure that you choose the correct or corresponding operating system that you have on your laptop (e.g XP, VISTA or Windows 7)

After downloading the video driver install it on your laptop then restart you computer. Goodluck!

Samsung SyncMaster 713BM

Follow the instruction below to solve your problem:
Restart your computer and enter Safe Mode (press F8 right as the computer starts booting up. Choose Safe Mode in the menu, press Enter twice).

While in Safe Mode, open Control Panel and go to Add/Remove Programs (Programs and Features on Vista/7) and uninstall the display driver software/drivers.

Restart your computer and boot normally. Now you should be able to see everything. Things might look bigger and uglier, that because there's no display driver installed. All you have to do now is reinstall the display driver. Use it's original disc or go to the manufacturer website and download the latest driver.

Good luck!

Screen goes blank (white), sometimes screen display will get big

You can update graphics driver, if that does not fix the issue check the display on external monitor. If the external monitor works fine you can isolate checking the display in BIOS Setup scree (Restart your computer and keep tapping F10 to getinto BIOS). If the same issue in BIOS, you may have to change display of the unit.

Screen keeps going black, and sometimes computer restarts

You could have a defective screen - a defective inverter or a CCFL lamp.
To determine if you have a LCD screen or video card problem, read this and follow the instructions.

Defective CCFL backlight, it may have the following symptom:

  • Screen flashs on red/pink and off.
  • Picture stays on in red and slowly be come normal.
  • Picture flickering with dim display.
  • Picture flickering on and off.
All these symptoms indicate that the LCD backlight lamp (CCFL Lamp) has reached the end of the life and all you need to do is replacing the CCFL lamp

Connect an external monitor to your laptop and power it up, if you see the normal Windows images then the video card and laptop is OK and the problem is definitely the backlight.

Dim image and/or dark display on the laptop's LCD screen indicates a faulty LCD backlight and it could be the inverter that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp or it is the CCLF lamp is nearly burnt out or burnt out, most likely this is the case.
The inverter can be replaced easily but the CCLF lamp is more time consuming and requires soldering skills.
