I've got a Scanport H21 monitor that the green light comes on but has a black screen. Can not bring up a menu or "VGA IN" message. Tried plugging in & out & holding down power button, No Good. If I keep repeating turning it off & on for 5 minutes (30~50 tries), Then it will say "VGA IN" & come up & run all night until I turn it off again. Then I need to play all over again. When it's running , It works perfect, all menues. Not worth having a shop fix, I know a little of part replacing. Any help what to check or what part I might be looking at. I can solder, I built a Heathkit TV in the 70's. Thank You.
I am in computers. This is either a #1. display that is going out. #2. the video card fails some times, #3. or the monitor is not plugged in all the way. #4. The VGA cable is not firmly attached to the Momputer/monitor. Your VGA IN message that the computer does not have its signal to the monitor that the connection to the computer is good. God Bless
John

With that many boards, it probably has a separate ballast (inverter) to run the lamps. In the power supply section, I would look for bulging electrolytics and bad connections. In the ballast I would suspect a shorted output transistor, a bad output transformer, a bulging capacitor or bad connections.

H-21 scan port Dark Screen, If you unplug the green light flashes 2 or 3 times ending any activity until completely unpluged and plugged in again. My other scan port works fine using 1st monitor cables. I've used both ports on the graphics card. It's definately the monitor power supply or other componant.
Any ideas?
Bill

Look for bad caps first. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capacitor_plague
If you are going to DIY and have proper tools and know safety precaution then please read on:
Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply (they should be replaced in a set), blown fuses; poor solder joints, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed monitors to get some ideas what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums
Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further and it will help out other people in the future also.

Hello Sbeban hi!, Most likely you have power supply problems. to fix this you need to replace the power supply board. or get professional help, by bringing it for repairs on your dealer. Now to do it yourself, you need a replacement PS board. Now finding on is difficult. I cannot help you here. search ebay, call your computer shop or dealer. then when you get the refurbish board. disassemble it and replace the old PS board with the new one.
