acer aspire 5100-3357 laptop running windows vista premium is lagging horribly from reboot.
The computer reboots and loads up relativly easily. Once running the cpu usage in taskmanager shoots up to 100% then lags, during lag cannot open any programs and can last for 1+ minutes then can get a moment but only briefly when the laptop doesnt lag. If i pull up yahoo messenger and run webcam, it lags out really bad and cannot do anything for several mins. I have uninstalled various programs, changed what loads up during boot up, cleaned registory, uninstalled norton anti virus (was told this uses up alot of resources) and the problem still persists..... help!!!

Try to download driver from Official Acer site here. Choose your laptop model. Then choose Operating System. In the list below scroll down and click on arrow next to CardReader. After downloading driver install it. Reboot laptop. If that won't help then I suggest re-install Operating System.
Press Start(ORB at bottom left for vista/w7) and if you're on windows 7/vista, there should be a list button on the bottom right side of the start menu saying "Shutdown"(windows 7) and "Sleep"(Vista), click the list and click Reboot.
On XP you need to click the Shutdown button and before you click shutdown instead click Reboot(Green button If i recall correctly).
You can use a torrent site like isoHUNT, to download a copy of the Acer OEM vista disc, this is a little illegal, but if you use your own Windows key from your COA sticker, it should register and activate ok.
You may have to download your drivers seperatly from from ACER.
You will need a torrent client like UTorrent, and the download could take a day or so
I have the exact same laptop as you. I've had this problem before. I bought the DVD's from Acer to reinstall everything and there are times when they don't work. I left it sit for a week and it stayed on the same screen. I would just keep trying, or order the DVD's from Acer. It will cost about $30 but might be your only chance.
I don't know if this is a flaw of this computer or not, but even with a different HDD in it it does the same.
