You only hit hook to hear the dial tone or use the machine like a speaker phone. To send a fax you press fax start. If you can't hear a dial tone when you press hook, there is something wrong with the phone line connection, or it's plugged in to the wrong plug on the machine. The phone line goes into the one marked with an L, the other with the pic. of a phone is for an additional telephone.
to stop the pixma from picking up even after the phone line has been picked up you need to ensure the telephone line is connected to the LINE port and not to the PHONE port on the back... the PHONE socket is if you wish to connect a phone line to the same socket Thru the pixma. (passthrough)
not sure how to stop the pixma picking up on the first ring though..... are you sure that you are SAVING the setting change.....?
I cannot receive faxes or print anything.
The message says that "there is no paper in the machine". There us plenty of paper in the machine and I push "OK" and get the same message
Check and make sure that if you have something plugged into the fax/phone ports that it is installed correctly. I had this noise when I accidentally put the usb cable into one of the ports.
Cannot figure how to hook up Canon MP830 all in one fax with remote answering machine. I can plug in phone line to send faxes fine but when hooked up in same hole and the phone rings it goes immediately to fax and can't receive phone calls. Maybe i have phone line hooked up in wrong place on my machine. The answering machine is in our master bedroom on the other side of the house. With my last a canon also i had it hooked up to go to fax after a certain amount of rings and it worked fine. That machine got fried by lightening and i replaced it with this machine. If anyone knows what i am doing wrong i really need this fax hooked up all the time for my business.
