You have to re-pair them from scratch. It is not automatic. You have to tell the iPad to find the Alexa and you have to tell the Alexa to search and shake hands with it.
To get help pairing a Bluetooth accessory-like a wireless keyboard-to your iOS device, try these steps:

2) Make sure that your Bluetooth accessory and iOS device are close to each other.
3) Turn your Bluetooth accessory off and back on again.
4) Make sure that your Bluetooth accessory is on and fully charged or connected to power. If your accessory uses batteries, see if they need to be replaced.

hi marilyn. The first time you use your Apple Pencil, take off its cap and plug it into the Lightning connector on your iPad Pro. When you see the Pair button, tap it. After you pair yourApple Pencil, it will stay paired until you restart your iPad, turn on airplane mode, or pair with another iPad Pro.19 Sep 2017
How to pair Bluetooth headphones to IPAD?
Most headsets have a power button or a switch to turn the device on. Press the "Pairing" button on your Bluetooth headset, if necessary. Select your headset from the Devices list on the iPad's Bluetooth window. Enter the passkey or PIN for your headset, if prompted.
If your portable speaker is Bluetooth-enabled, here is the general procedure:
1. Press and hold the function control button on the speaker until you see red and blue lights flashing in rapid succession on the speaker (the speaker is now in "pairing" mode).
2. Turn on Bluetooth on your iPad and then tap on Scan. iPad will begin scanning for nearby Bluetooth devices. When you see a name similar to that of your speaker, tap on it . You will be asked for a passcode/passkey to pair the iPad with the speaker. Enter '0000' or '1234' (without the quotes).
3. Once the passkey is accepted, the two devices are now paired. The light on the speaker should become a steady blue.
4. On the iPad, tap on Connect. If the iPad connects to the speaker, you will see Connected. You are done. Play some music from the iPad to see if you can hear it coming through the speaker.
You should have this procedure detailed in the set up guide that came with the speaker. Please note that pairing is required only for the first time you try to connect the two devices, to get them "acquainted" to each other. After that, all you need is to connect the iPad to the speaker every time you want to listen to your iPad through the speaker.
1. Switch on BlueTooth on your keyboard.
2. Enable BlueTooth on your iPad.
3. Search for devices on your iPad.
4. Press button if available on keyboard to get discovered.
5. Select keyboard when shown in devices list.
6. Enter pairing code sometimes 0000 or 1234.
7. Use and enjoy.
You have to have the 2 iPads basically side by side. Then you go to the bluetooth section on both. Then on each one it will come up with the name of the other iPad. The beside the name on each one it will say "not paired". Click the name on both iPads. Then it will pop up asking if you want to pair with the other iPad. Hope that helped.
