SOURCE: my sharp cd-ba 1700,has protect

The most common failure is of the internal Amp IC for these units. See the link below for a generic explanation of protect mode. I believe that the amp-pacs for these are still available and are in the $45 range.

Sharp CD 1700protect Error

Other than unpluggingfrom the mains (if haven't been tried) for an extended period of time (say overnight), there are no reset procedures applicable to this CD shelf system. The idea is to force the unit to revert back to factory defaults.

Almost always, a faulty speaker/connection would short out the output stages hence the 'PROTECT' error message. The only time this messge would be gone is when the built-in diagnostics no longer senses the fault, i.e. after it has been repaired.Sorry.

I tryed to have additonal speaker on my sharp cd-BA 150 player all sudden stop working and gave me an error message "PROTECT" so how do I fix that?

The output amp section for your system is not designed to run more than the speakers that come with it. By adding more, you presented too low an impedence load to the amp and overheated it. This occurred too quickly for the internal protection circuits to kick in to prevent damage to the outputs. This unit will now require that the outputs be replaced. These are not the easiest units to work on, so I would not suggest that you attempt this repair yourself. Expect a parts cost in the $35 range for this repair. Dan

My audio system says protect on display

Hi Jean,

Without a brand and a model, best that I can provide are generic possibilities:
1. unplug the unit from the mains for a couple of hours. This is supposedly to reset most systems; and/or
2. check the speaker wires and make sure none of any bare wires are touching each other.

If your concern has not been corrected after completion of the above procedures, pls post back brand and model.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back as requested, how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

Protect error

The 'Protect' error means there is a DC voltage present in the output section(which should not be there). This can be caused by a defective output IC(the big IC on the heatsink). Disconnect the IC and see if the error goes away. Also check the resistors around the IC.

F61

Hi, I'll quote directly from the service manual Error display - F61 Problem condition - When POWER is switched on, power become off automatically. During normal operation, if DC DET become L, PCNT shall become L and the error display on the left shall be displayed. (IC501) What *I* think that they are trying to say is that the protection circuit will activate if DC appears on the speaker terminals. IC501 the audio output chip may be faulty.
