I have been searching the internet and calling around to find a solution and everyone tells me that it sounds like an eprom but no one can find the part I need mine is out of warranty so it would cost me to much to get repaired ...U should call RCA it will be a fight but they should eventually cave in.

I Have same problem. Once in a while I will get a picture for a bit, but within 5 - 10 minutes the screen goes to a greenish blue/ grey and then shuts off. Tried without any games or video equipment plugged in - same thing.

  • neubie2 Dec 04, 2007

Had the same problem occur last night. No green light, not able to turn on manually or by remote. Unplugged the TV for 5 minutes, plugged it back in and could hear it power up and then a "click". Pushed power button and red light came on and started blinking for about 7-8 seconds, but power would not turn on. TV is less than 2 years old, but out of warranty. No-one seems to have an answer, and I hate to trash it, as repairs will probably run as much as purchasing a new one. NEVER will I buy an RCA again, that's for danged sure

  • Debbie Jan 01, 2008

I also have a RCA 32v434t. It went off all by itself. I looked on the internet and it said to try to reset it by unplugging it for 5 minutes. When I plugged it back in, I heard it click and then the red light in front blinked for about 10 seconds and then just stayed on. This TV is only 2 years old. From what I read, there are a lot of problems with this brand. I have heard trying to change the emprom or the transformer. Are these steps expensive, and, are they even worth it? I know one thing: never, ever, ever will I buy a RCA product from Wal-Mart or anywhere else!!!!!!

  • Anonymous Jan 01, 2008

on mine the colour went out and stayed out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! unplugged it for a few days and now it won't tune anything in. have tried with antenna, satelite, vcr and dvd but no sound or picture. if there is a fix please let me know.

  • Anonymous Jan 10, 2008

Same problem, purchased my 87 y/o mother this TV (32V434T) as gift. It worked for 7 months. The red power light will blink for a few seconds. Then remains on. My good news is still under warranty. But have to endure the hassle of taking the TV in.

  • Anonymous Feb 15, 2008

Yeah. How do you know what this "cheap transformer" is? Where is it at in/on the TV? How much does the part cost?

  • Bigheadache Feb 26, 2008

TV goes off and on by it self, I did as the manual suggested but could not check the time menu because everytime I press a button on the remote the tv goes off even the volume buttons turns off the tv. Only had this tv for 1.5 year and now this problem. I pressed the input button last night now i can't get back to a station because when i try to continously press the button as the manual says, the tv goes off. No matter what i try the tv goes off!! Can't check the time menu because the tv goes off as soon as i try to move down the screen.

I purchased the same exact tv last Febuary, and of course now that we are one month out of warrenty, they will not cover to fix the problem. My husband left ours on one night and when I got up the next morning, it was just a black screen. Tried unplugging it and plugging it back in, you can hear it get power, and the red light comes on showing that it is getting power, but no picture or sound.. I was just wondering if you got yours fixed and if so what was wrong with it and about what is it going to cost to fix it.. I will never buy anything RCA again.. Never had a problem with them before and never will again... Thanks R. Gray

Same here... I need to contact RCA this is a defective product OBVIOUSLY!!!!! How do I get in touch with them? shut down with blinking light only. you know the story. We bought this hunk of junk in Arizona for our vacation house and had to take the first one back to the store imediatly but the replacement lasted aprox. 30 days on w/e ends only. Then we brought it home and it lasted only about 30 days I put off takeing it back to wal-mart cuz its so frickin heavy. Anyway there really should be a recall on this thing. [email protected]

Same here.. shut down, flashing light. I need to contact RCA and get this thing recalled. We bought it in AZ. for a vacation house and used it on w/e for about 30 days then brought it home and it lasted aprox. 30 more days. This was actually a replacement for the inital TV that was returned after one day. I put off returning this one cuz it is so frickin heavy. What a waste ,more electronic junk for the landfills. what the heck can I do to dispose of this thing or get some recourse against RCA for selling an OBVIOUSlY defective produt. Thanks Carol Mc

I have a RCA 32v434t tv that I have had for 2 years, and one night I woke up and the picture was blank. I tried turning it on, but it wouldn't come on. I unplugged it and the red light came on, and after about 7 seconds the red light just stayed on, and there was no picture or no sound. How do you know that its the RCA transformer, and how much would it cost to get a new RCA transformer?

  • Andy 38 Apr 05, 2008

Same problem... I purchased my 32" RCA 32V434T from Wal-Mart about one year ago and the TV picture will not come up. I plug in the TV, I hear a click. I then hit the Power button and the Power LED blinks for about 15 seconds and then stays steady red but the picture will not turn on. The power switch will no longer even turn off the TV. I have to unplug it from the wall.

I now have hooked my old 20" RCA TV back up that I bought in 1991. It still works like a champ!! Unbelievable!!

This seems to be a very common problem. I am in the same boat! Has anyone had any luck with returning?

EXACT same problem and just outside of warraty. RCA must have some idea on what it can be, right?

  • Steelman74 Aug 04, 2008

I called rca as my tv just did the same thing... they said "picture tube" but you are out of warenty my tv is only about 2 years old...

  • cawolf Aug 14, 2008

Have the SAME exact problem ... good to know RCA has managed to produce such shoddy sets ... and you wonder why the damn things are so cheap. It isn't worth paying $150 to fix in my opinion, so unless someone has a good idea how to fix this.

One person stated it is the transformer? Can anyone tell us (since there are many apparently with this problem) WHAT the flashing red light indicates?

  • jules9405 Sep 02, 2008

Same thing here. TV made 06/07 and died 09/01/08. Does the exact same as everyone describes. Has anyone contacted the Attorney General to lodge a formal complaint on this product yet? This is absolutely ridiculous for a tv to only last one year. RCA must not care for their reputation, but with the economy the way it is, they really should care about how many people they are upsetting.

  • Anonymous Sep 21, 2008

Same problem. Died during watching. Clicks but won't power up. Won't turn off. Set has very little use on it. What constitutes a lemon in electronics?

From now on, guess I'll surf the model # before buying any tv.

  • cinaseena Sep 25, 2008

my son was watching tv and the tv just went out. I unplugged the tv, waited for a while to plug in back up once plugged up the red power light flashed for a few seconds then turns solid tv has no picture or sound and will not power off until its unplugged. I see hear many other people have the same problem with this particular model in such a short period time. My tv was not even a year old when this problem occurred. However I couldn't find the receipt until just recently.

  • morganjd3 Oct 20, 2008

I have the same problem. it comes on for a second and shuts down with the red light flashing. for the money it should have lasted longer than 2 years! john618

  • x-tech Oct 29, 2008

I'm a former Sears TV technician, and I had some RCA factory training.
I have one of these sets, dead, on my bench. Actually, it's on the floor; it's too big for my bench.
    1) It is possible, via the remote control, to accidentally alter some basic set functions, including some parameters which will keep the set from coming on. As I recall, the process of proving that and correcting it requires several hours and some specific test equipment. Not worth the money.
    2) The set does have an eeprom chip which stores those parameters; changing the chip (assuming you can get Thompson Consumer Electronics to send you the right one) only gets you half-way back to normal operation. Not worth the money. Earlier chassis' like the CTC-170 through 179 had major problems because of this chip, and some bad manufacturing techniques.
    3) "Customer Service" is a joke; they usually know less about their products than any good tv tech (assuming you can still find one) who has had a half hour or so to research the set. Not worth the phone call nightmare.
    4) Generally, models change so quickly that by the time any good tech starts to feel comfortable with a particular chassis, the manufacturer has redesigned the product and the tech has to start all over again.
    5) No Manufacturer Anywhere builds products with the intention that the product will last more than 2 years. Otherwise, they couldn't sell more of their **** to people who remember the Brand Name as representing "value". Brand names (like RCA) are bought and sold; the owner of the Brand has no obligation whatsoever to maintain the levels of quality the name may have once represented.
    6) This particular tv will end up in the dumpster. Which is exactly where Thompson intended it to be a year or so after they got the customer's money.

Yep.. the second RCA I've been through in the past 5 years... the first shot out after about 3 years... got another (big mistake) and it just shut down on me - about 2 years old now. RCA is proving to be ****. It powers on, then just a black screen... won't cut off... garbage.

I have the RCA model 32v434t with the same problem as everyone else I see.It went out with no warning, and refuses to come back on.I can push the ON button and the red light flashes a few times and then stays lit,and I have to unplug it to get the thing to get it to shut down.Does anyone know how to fix it,as I'm disabled and can't afford to buy another.(WHICH WOULD'NT BE AN RCA!!!!)

  • Sdeese Jan 08, 2009

I finally threw mine out - RCA sent me to Thompson Network via a very generic email. No help there!

  • d2bnjl Jan 11, 2009

Kids was watching cartoons and it just clicked off with no warning. I press the power button and it doesn't shut off, i unplugged it. Let it stay unplugged for 2 days and still nothing, light comes back on but no pic or sound. Built November 2006 and died January 10,2009. Would really like to find out whats doing this. But when i plugged mine back in I did an audible beep from the back off the set. Don't know if anyone else has this or not. Will not buy an RCA EVER again.

  • gcasper Mar 01, 2009

Same problem. Mine failed within the first year and had it repaired by a service company in Pflugerville, TX. Cost me $112 Labor, parts were covered under warranty. Now 2 1/2 years old and it has failed again with same problem.

I haven't been able to fiind the original repair paperwork, but it seems like the flyback circuit had to be replaced.

Unless I get some bailout money, this consumer won't be contributing to the economy any time soon.

  • bratica16 Mar 07, 2009

Alright, I HAD this problem also. I bought a replacement flyback transformer and my father helped me put it in:
You'll also need a de-soldering gun to remove the old one from the motherboard. Replace (be careful not to shock yourself) remembering how all the pieces looked before you took them out.
Mine has been working for about 4 weeks now with no problems. That's not to say that it will work forever (i've read that the same old problem happens after a relatively short amount of time). Hope I was able to help...

We bought this exact TV on 2/10/2007 and it made a high pitch screech and then the screen went black with no sound. Red power button kept flashing. I tried turning it off and nothing happens. I unplugged it and plugged it back in and the red light is now solid but wont let me turn the tv on or off now. I bought the 2 year warranty plan when we purchased the tv so mine is still under warranty. A company is suppose to come out this morning to fix the tv (keeping my fingers crossed). I will update this when they finally show up and tell me what the heck is going on. This was the first time we have ever bought RCA brand and we sure as heck wont do it again!

Wow... the failure rate of these things are amazing. Purchased 6/3/2007, died 8/11/2008. They got that 1YR warranty down. I'll call them tomorrow, but I don't think I will ever buy a RCA again.

It sounds strange that the power light to this model Sony TV blinks "42" times. It should never happen. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Viewing it in "Mosaic" or "Magazine" will make surf easy. Pull up older posts. Surf the site with patience. Do a search by type in the brand name of your device at its search box and press "Enter".
These blinks are fault indications,[Error Codes], and from the number of these blinks, you can get an idea about the faulty circuit stage inside the TV; which will make repair easy.

Sony KDF-50E2000 shuts down and blinks repeatedly twice.

The 2 blink error is a temperature error and the 6 blink error is a thermal fuse error. You may need to unplug the set and get you a can of canned air, take off the back lower cover and blow out all of the fans inside the set.

Tv turns on w/pic then pic dissapears light blinks 4 times

I have the same issue, we've had to change our bulb three times in less than two years. now we have 61" expensive paper weight. Our current bulb is less than 6 months old. The TV is only 2 years old and like i said this is our third bulb.

the blue light blinks 4 times. you get sound. then a few minutes the the picture returns... then it goes out, and the cycle goes on.

A solution to this would be greatly appreciated.

Use your warranty in a hurry before it expires. Your TV when into protection mode to prevent further damage. Most TVs have a 1 year warranty. Good Luck.
