I broke a lens once and just went and bought a New / Used Bounce Flash that had a uneversal flash-boot. most cameras have a flash plug in to acommidate Auto Flash Modes. If You Know how to test Cameras and Adjustable 'Bounce" flashes like yours PAWN SHOPS are a PARADISE.

I know you probably have already fixed the problem, but in case you didn't, or just to help others with the same problem:
This morning I connected my 550 EX to my camera and had the same issue with the info on the LCD flashing incessantly.
Turned out to be the diffuser on top of the flash head, the one
you pull out, then down over the flash to soften the light.
If the diffuser is pulled out even two millimeters from its
resting position, the LCD won't stop flashing!
Just push it back in, and voila!
hope this can be of help
