Whirlpool Duet Washer Leaking

My 3 year old duet wash has been leaking water and water has been accumulating in the drum. I have an extended warranty from Best Buy and they've been out 2 times this week. First time, he found a sock between the drum and below and declared problem solved. 2nd time he cleaned out a valve next to the water pump and declared problem solved. I ran a load of laundry yesterday and the drum was filled with approximately 3 inches of water and clothes were wet. I ran the drain and Spin mode and the drum cleared. This morning I went to dry the clothes that were in the washer and again the drum was filled with water and had leaked. I have the same problem with my GHW9100LW2. It will magically fill up overnight, but only sometimes...I thought I had elves living in my garage! It doesn't do it every day--in fact, it can go a few weeks without doing it...junk...I regret buying this machine.

Thanks Vic! That's what i was guessing it was. I think my hard water is the culprit, as the valve is only 3ish years old. At least it is easy to access.

Now I just need to shop for the part.

Thanks again for the quick response!

Hi; I HAD A SIMILAR ISSUE; VERY HARD WATER CAUSED MIXING VALVE TO CLOG AND REMAIN OPEN. Mine cost about $50 to repair, and I did it myself.
Good Luck! Paul

Hi, If you are getting water in the washer without it running, the inlet mixer valve is going bad. When you run a load, does it finish spinning and all the water is out? I hope this helps you. It is not an expensing repair. I can walk you through the repair if you would like.
Please let me know if I can assist you further.
Thanks
Vic

Water seeps into Whirpool Duet washer

If your washer is leaking water when it is not in use, the following link explains how to troubleshoot to isolate the cause:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r3753262-front_load_washer_fills_when_not_in_use

The problem is either attributed to a defective pressure switch or a water inlet valve that is leaking by. The link I provided will explain how to determine which one.

If you still require assistance, please let me know.

Whirlpool duet washer leaking water into the drum when not used

water leakin in tho the drum is sign of a faulty water inlet valve, not shutting off water supply to machine, it continues to trickle in , in beween washes. you can turn off the water supply between washes see if this helps, and if it does then youll know its the water valve

Whirlpool Duet Washer Leaking

For those wondering about replacing the water inlet valve - this is a very simple undertaking.  You can find the part online for around 40 bucks.  All you have to do is unplug the washer, detach the hot and cold supply hoses, remove the lid (3 torx bits on my model) unhook the water line from the old inlet valve (conveniently accessible at the top right of the unit from the rear), unhook the electrical connections (be sure to label these for later re-attachment), unscrew the 1 screw holding the valve in place, and reverse the process with the new valve.  I'm hoping this will stop water accumulating in the drum - I'll update later if it does not.
