SOURCE: Samsung TV won't turn on- trying to fix it. A challenging problem

I had the same problem. I live in NJ and called the local authorized "service provide" listed on the Samsung website. What a joke. Quoted $350 just to show up, never showed up. So I opened my own TV. Took off the plastic back (10 screws) took off the large metal RF shield (12-14 screws) and noticed a blown component. The markings on the component were KL15L and it is apparently an NTC Thermistor. Obviously it got fried and not knowing if there was other damage I decided to set out to replace the entire Power PCB Board Assembly and not the component. There were two part numbers on the assembled board (BN97-00457E & BN94-00622E). After searching online I also found a suitable replacement number for these (BN96-04896A). I found two places who claimed to have the part or have it on order (shopjimmy.com and vancebaldwin.com). After placing orders with both and having neither come through, I broadened my search and found out that the LNR409D was basically the same model as my LNR408D so I looked for its Power PCB Board Assembly part number which turned out to be BN41-00521B. Google search for that part number showed the item available on ebay. I bought it a week ago (ebay 260311519904) for $144 plus $12 shipping. I removed the bad board an hour ago (6 screws about 7 connectors) installed the new one, plugged in the connectors, replaced the covers, plugged in the TV... AND IT WORKS!
Suggestion: If your TV is out of warranty then open it up (what have you got to lose) and see if the problem is obvious and maybe something you can fix (replace) yourself. The parts, spare boards, etc. are out there if you look.

SOURCE: how hard it is to replace by yourself main board Samsung LN-T4065

You need to do some more diagnosing of the problem. If you get sound and change channels take a bright flashlight and place it again the screen. Look for an image around the edge of the flashlight.
If you see an image that means the LCD controller board (TCON) is probably good.

The problem is probably one of three causes;
1) Inverter board is bad
2) CCFT (cold cathode fluorescent light) are bad.
3) Power to the inverter board is bad. You can also check the connectors.

My Samsung LN52A550 has vertical lines in the middle and right side of the screen is black

This most likely a problem with the T-CON board.

If this set is under warranty you should return it to get it repaired/replaced by the seller.
IF YOU KNOW HOW TO WORK WITH ELECTRONICS REPAIR(board replacement ) or have a friend with knowledge/skill you can fix it.

Sometimes due to heating/cooling or contamination the connection pins on the T-CON board and cables do not make good contacts. The T-CON board is located in the center of the set.

After taking off the back cover and shield over the T-CON board carefully remove the flat cables connected to the T-CON board. I believe there are 4. The connectors have a lip on them to hold the cables so be careful.
Now reconnect the cables. Recheck the display now. If it has not corrected you can disconnect and reconnect again.
The very first solution I entered on fixya.com had essentially this same problem and solution.

If this does not solve the problem you can replace the T-CON board.

The T-CON board look something like;

Tv swiches on ok,picture is o.k but then loses about a third of picture this happens intermitetly on right hand side of screen

This is probably the a problem with the T-CON board (LVDS) or connecting cables.
If the connecting cables are not making good contact with the connectors on the T-CON board it can cause the same problem.

IF YOU KNOW HOW TO WORK WITH ELECTRONICS REPAIR(board replacing ) or have a friend with knowledge/skill you can fix it.

Disconnect and reconnect the cable(s) to the T-CON board to make a better connection.
Be careful removing the cable(s) since the connectors have a lip to hold the cable on.

The T-CON board is usually located in the center on the set behind a metal shield.

If this does not work you can replace the T-CON board.
Since you did not give a make and model I can not give more details.

Vertical lines

Solid color vertical lines, that is the sign of failed LCD panel TFT dirvers circuits, which means it will need new LCD panel, but first check the connection between the panel and the T-CON board first.
See my album to see what T-CON board looks like.

I have vertical bars on screen

Hello,

The T CON board of the television is bad, you need to replace this
The T-CON (Timing Control or LCD controller) board (on the LCD panel assembly). It transfer the universal image signal of TTL and LVDS signal to specific TFT (Thin Film Transistor) LCD.
This is the interface board that talks to the Logic board and the LCD panel to produce pictures on the screen. White/gray glowing screen when it fails or not getting the voltage from the logic board (the 5 or 12vdc is supplied by switched transistor on the logic board). Notes: T-CON board is mounted under the metal cover shield.
Common failures:
Scrambled pictures, Lines, multiple pictures, color smears/blotches, rolling pictures after warm up.
Blown surface mounted fuse.
No pictures, very dark screen almost like there is no backlights.

Hope this helps........

There is horizontal line come in TFT in last 2 yr i ask the dealer he told that its bcoz some resister short now after another line come in my TFT whats the problem? and notice that this problem come after...

You may have failing TFT (Thin Film Transistor, each pixel on the screen is driven by one transistor, so there are 100 of thousands on the LCD panel
) or bad connection or failing T-CON board.
See pictures here:
http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capacitor_plague
It will usually get worst with more lines as time goes by. New panel will be needed.
