Jan 4, 2013 - My Canon Selphy CP740 start to jam ink ribbon and ink cartridge is blocked and cann't be removed from printers. ... Question about Canon SELPHYCP740 InkJet Photo Printer .... SOURCE: CP760 SELPHY CP760 COMPACT PHOTO PRINTER Thermal: ink cassette stuck in the canon selphy printer CP7.
There can be a number or reasons for this. The top to are that the printer may need re-calibrating or the print quality is set to economy/fast draft instead of photo which is great when trying to save ink but printing a photo requires greater detail and more ink. Printing will take longer too.
Make sure that you have a good ribbon installed and that the ribbon is advancing as the carriage moves. If the ribbon is not advancing it will only print until the ink has been used up on the section of ribbon stuck in front of the print head. It will also need a new carriage if the ribbon is not advancing.
The mask stops this sort of problem and the print head could do with cleaning so that the pins don’t get stuck. The ink coagulates over the years and causes the pins to jam and eventually tear up ribbons of just burn up the driver coils in the head assembly. The head face needs cleaning with a cotton bud or two or three with isopropyl alcohol to remove all the ink residue from the pins and shafts. If you can remove the head assembly this is much easier to do.
I had the same issue. Don't try to force the cartridge out though. After being stuck to the paper, tearing the remainder of the film won't get all of it out of the cartridge. You'll need to print a 'dummy' page to get the last bit to be pulled out and afterwards the printer will automatically release the cartridge allowing it to be pulled out normally.
