Hey Hi...
You need to install the CHIPSET DRIVERS. Just click on the link below
for downloading and installing the chipset drivers and your USB PORTS
will start working

Ok these usually happens only because of the drivers not installed or if the right drivers are not installed, Go to device manager and check for USB controller and check for drivers, if missing check your motherboards model number and download the appropriate drivers from the actual brand website of your motherboard. should work now.
check this things 1.make sure the minimum hardware and operating system requirements of the hardware to be installed are met. 2.just make sure the latest bios code is installed. 3.then make sure the usb is enabled in the BIOS. power on the system, press f1 to access the system configuration utility.click devices and i/o ports and then click usb. 5. make sure the usb controller and hub are listed in the device manager as will as any installed devices for the usb option. 6. then you can try the device in all available usb ports.if it works in other usb ports, the non working ports probably defective.
Hi, I also faced the same issue on my dell Inspiron. The problem is that my USB driver got corrupted somehow and hence my laptop stopped detecting nay USB drive. I found out that there is a driver that we need to re- install. But then again the problem is Dell N4010 does not have drivers for Windows 8 :-( So I needed to install it in compatibility mode. I made a small article about this issue with snapshots. http://www.placementyogi.com/articles/commonissues/Dell-Inspiron-N4010-Not-Detecting-USB-device-or-pen-drive-Solved This is an external link outside dell forum, I am not sure If I am allowed to do so but I cant write all the steps here:
dear, have you install the new windows.. is it you first try..
If you have installed the windows and the usb ports are not working, you need to install the drivers of the motherboard and can be got from this site.. http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&SystemID=DIM_PNT_P4_3100&os=WW1&osl=en&catid=-1&impid=-1
you need to select your operating system and the other selection and can recieved the drivers..
if it was working fine and immeditely, it stopped working due to some reason then again do this step.. hope it will surely fix the issue... By the way, if this method doesnt work, then you have check whether the usb ports are enable from the CMOS setup by pressing DEL of F key that if shows in startup to go in it..
I devised these simple steps that tend to remedy quite a few issues with most USB portable / external hard drives and devices (though not always)
A few things to check but assumes USB and Windows for other interfaces / operating systems similar steps may be adapted to suit.
1. Ensure it is connected directly to the computer to a USB 2.0 port not a USB 1.0 port as this can have effects on performance and reliability
2. Use only the cables that came with it NOT one that fits that may have been lying around or is longer. Not all USB cables are equal even though they should be)
3. Do not connect through an external USB HUB unless that hub is USB 2.0 AND has its own power supply.
4. Use ONLY the power supply that came with it if it has an external power supply Don’t use any other unless you know it has both the same voltage and current rating e.g. 12V 500mA anything rated below that would not work properly.
5. Always use the same port for connecting your devices. Some devices do not like being switched about. If switched they may want to install software / drivers again. This can be especialy true if you move a HUB to another port
If you checked and fixed anything there and still have issues then check your hardware from CONTROL PANEL / SYSTEM / HARDWARE.
Any exclamation marks by hardware need fixing before you investigate any further
Could try going into windows safe mode and select basic shell. It may then allow you to reconfigure the hardware settings of your system. Presume you have tried another usb port and removed other usb connected devices if they are using same settings ?
