hmmm... that antenna logo is used for turning off and on the built in wireless... not sure why you would need a PCMCIA card. Unless the laptop doesnt have an internal wireless card. If it does have one, you can hit the FN key and then the Antenna key while hilding FN down to toggle the internal wireless off and on.

Check something for me, go into the windows control panel, open the SYSTEM icon, go to the hardware tab in the window that pops up, click on the device manager button... youll get a list of hardware thats in your machine... click the plus symbol next too Network Adapters and let me know what devices are listed there and also if anything has a ? or big red X next to it.

Is there a wireless adapter available for this model

Yes there is, and it's called Compaq WL100 Wireless 11-Mbps PC Card. You check the wireless driver here:http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareIndex.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodNameId=96717&prodSeriesId=96231&swLang=8&taskId=135&swEnvOID=1093#11319
If your laptop doesn't have this and you still need wireless connectivity, better get a usb-type wireless adapter. This should give your laptop wireless functionality, same as a wireless adapter.

The speed in which the adapters can communicate are listed below...
B - 11 Mbps

Dell TrueMobile 1150 won't connect to secured wireless acct.

well! some wireless adapter`s are not capable of connecting to higher security so that`s why for that it`s recommended you use WEP security instead of WPA.

Chng internal wireless adapter from 11Mbps to 54 Mbps

The 802.11 protocol is for wireless adapters. If your is 11MBs, it is a b card. Buy a g or n card to achieve the 54 MBs you want. Be sure to uninstall the b card and software before you install the new card.

Good luck, and please let me know how this works out for you.

My laptop cannot connect to my local network (LAN)

Assuming you initially set up the router using the wired lan adapter and lead, enabled DHCP in the settings. First stand right next to your router; Dells wireless is a little tempremental, go to control panel and in there should be Dell wireless monitor, open this up refresh it and see if it finds any wireless networks, if so try to connect. Dissable your wired network lan adapter. Go to the properties of your wireless card and on the TCP/IP line click properties again and ensure that obtain an ip address automatically is selected, press ok and restart the pc.
