Question about Televison & Video

1 Answer

Sony KV36XBR200 36" TV is 8 years old, has been working great, never a problem or glitch. Now TV turns on, picture comes on then goes blank for a split second, then goes blank again. Picture goes on/off, audio is never an issue, doesn't matter which input I use. I did notice that the tube has a much more of a greenish tint to it without any video inputs. Any help / advise is greatly appreciated. Thanks Gunter

Having the same problem. Was working fine, then recently picture
would blink on and off/audio not a problem. Now, the TV
constantly blinks on an off, doesn't matter if its been on for days or
hours. I don't like the idea of replacing this huge TV (Its
really really heavy), especially after only 9 years of use. I
feel I didn't get my fair share of use, after only 9 years.

Same as above. 36" Sony, Vega/Trinitron, mfr. Dec. 99, purchased in 2000. Intermittant blinking, sound is unaffected. Blinks more when TV is first powered up, and then seems to settle down. After that it's completely random. It may go a few hours without blinking, and then act up again, sometimes only a few minutes. Put a temporary set in its place and it works fine. If it makes a difference, the channel # is always displayed after it blinks out.

I have the sony KV-35s26 35" TV. The Tv standby blinks for about 10-15 seconds and the the Tv comes on. Once the tv is on it blinks about every two seconds, sometimes it will stop for a while then it will start randomly blinking again. Can you help me find out what the problem is?

Same problem here. We purchased the TV new about 8 years a go, and sense it was soooo big and heavy, we have never moved it. Now its blinking even after its been powered up for a long time.

    Me as well...

I have noticed it will blink less at a MUCH darker picture setting, like putting the picture to it's lowest setting and the brightness to it's lowest setting and the TV will recover after awhile and take longer to start blinking again once you brighten back up. It still comes back. and it's a growing degree of green hue that increasingly tints the screen til BLINKing commences. Basketball March Madness was truly that!!!!!!!!

Mine is doing the exact same thing!!! Only mine has a reddish hue when it's on. Screen blinks off almost every 30 seconds or so! Mine was manufactured in January 1999, what a bummer! I don't think I got enough use out of the set for the money spent. Really dissapointed in Sony, the

TV was great while it was working...

My sony wea lcd 60 inch television goes blank with no sound every 5 minutes or so for about 30 to 45 seconds then the picture and sound come back the set is just over 3 years old

Symptom shows TV needs new lamp and existing lamp is getting weak / dying.
Replace lamp in TV and procedure is written in user manual.
Let me know model number of TV if you need user manual copy.

Comes on and later goes blank

How much later? The Sony sets have a setting in the menu that turnes the TV off if there isnt' any input, Sometimes this feature gets messed up, and the feature has to be turned off, Check that out and see if that takes care of the problem.

Tired with this sony tv

Sony doesn't want anyone to see a poor picture on a Sony tv so they have a circuit that blanks the video if there is a weak picture or any other problem concerning picture quality. My Sony factory Instructor told me this many many years ago. I'm feeling old...but anyway you need a technician. Sorry.

Sony Trinitron experiences

The screen control inside the set may be on the highvoltage transformer or on the crt socket; either way if you can turn it up just a little clockwise and the picture comes up but doesn't look good you are likely to have a bad tube. Or try tapping lightly on the glass neck and watch the picture as you tap. If it reacts to the tap you have a bad tube. but the turning the screen control is the best test. Turn it the other way the picture goes off immediately. bad tube: too costly if it is available.
