Irecently purchased a sony 3 head reel to reel tape deck;there no sounds nowhere.what do ai need to get sound
It depends on the model number as many Sony decks of old had amps built in and speakers attached. If there are no speakers attached then it may be a deck that requires an receiver or Integrated amp to work. The RCA jack that are labeled out will go tot the tape in on a receiver, the RCA cables that are plugged into the input go to the receivers rec out. You will need two sets of stereo RCA cables. The better one come from Cable for less and run about $4.00 a set- they are blue. Deck that are old can also have many other problems like dirty switches and failed capacitors or a bad transistor. I fix them all the time and so I know what goes bad on them- I have 4 Sony decks in the shop now. To determine if the deck has signal output it is best to plug headphones in and see if you hear anything- if you don't take it to a Technician- I am in Chicago area under Skywave Tape Deck Repair. Don't try Sony as the gave up on open reels even when I worked there back in the 90's. They turned them away at the counter- of course all service shops have been closed down in Illinois now.
You do need an amp of some kind. On the back of the deck will be RCA sockets, in the red and white ones you plug a line cable to the audio in sockets of an amp or receiver. The other two sockets are record. They go to the audio out of the amp.
