White 1919 won't sew through heavy duty zipper. Supposed to be heavy duty machine. How can I adjust this?

Is there anything I can adjust to make the machine sew through this thicker zipper? I've had this machine for some time, but rarely used it.

You should be on straight stitch selection, use size 16 or 18 needle, apply longer stitch length(3-3.5mm), always lower down your needle using your hand wheel first, so as not to burden the motor when you started sewing your material. Hope this can be helpful.

SOURCE: need help making a bobbin...

Ahah! I was having a similar problem, but figured it out. What you do is you first put the spool of thread you want on the bobbin in its normal place, just as if you were sewing. Then you take the end of the thread and wrap it around the metal button-looking thing on the top of the metal string catcher on top of the machine. Wrap it around once in a figure eight sort of pattern (or kinda like a Jesus-fish symbol). Then you take the end and put it through one of the holes on the bobbin. Make sure there's enough so that it won't slide out, because it will wind at sewing speed. Now, you take the bobbin and put it on the metal post on the right-hand side of the machine, the one in front next to the white plastic round with a screw in the middle. It should fit on tightly.

Now, here's the part that took me forever: on most machines I've encountered, there's a switch somewhere that tells the machine to wind the bobbin. On the White Fashionaire 2380 that switch is the bobbin-holder itself (the metal post it is on right now!). Push the post, bobbin and all, towards the white plastic thing (sorry, but it's late and proper teminology eludes me). It should click over, and your thread should be going from the spool, around the metal button (in a figure eight fashion) and should be threaded through one of the holes in the bobbin. Now you hold the end of the thread and press the pedal, and after a short while the thread will be pulled out of your hand (or possibly not, if it's long enough). Keep going until you have enough thread on the bobbin, and cut it loose! You're done!

White 1919 sewing machine. Do they make a walking foot for it? I can't find one in the accessories list.

Question edited for clarity.
Question moved from MISC to White.

These are the two best parts sites and they don't list one. The best thing would be to contact them direct. I am led to believe that a Singer might fit.

How can I find out if a White sewing machine model 599 will sew leather?

It depends on what you are sewing. If it's boots, shoes ,saddles, purses or heavy duty stuff like that I doubt it. But you could ask the manufacturer. On the other hand if you are sewing light weight skirts etc or using pleather, its not so much the machine but the needle which should be an 18 with heavy duty thread and a longer stitch.
Hope this helps .

Your machine can use other presser feet as long a the shank is compatible with your machine. You may want to consider a zipper foot for sewing cording,:

Why is needle hitting zipper foot on left side only?

When the needle is set on the center position, is it centered or is it slightly off center? If so, then the mechanism needs to be adjusted so that the needle is perfectly centered. When it is off-center, you will get the problem you are experiencing with hitting one side of the zipper foot. May want to take it in for service.

I am sewing upholstry fabric together in a pillow with piping and heavy zipper. Thread will not go through fabric correctly and there are no stitches.

Hi. Unthread and rethread everything, clean out any lint, and oil the machine. This, plus using the right size needle (size 16 or higher) and thread (heavy duty), should do the trick.

Let me know if this solves the problem, ok?

Good luck!
