You can replace the cover if you want. What I do for my customers, and have done for 7 or 8 years on this model is to simply remove the cover. It is only there to cover the drum when you have the right side door open, like when removing paper jams. Removing the cover will have absolutely no effect on the machine unless you are in the habit of leaving the right side door open for long periods of time. If you just have to replace it then let me know back as I have 8 to 10 parts machines sitting in my warehouse and can come up with a cover for you.
Thank You for using Fixya.
A testimonial is always appreciated!
The ratchet mechanism within the power switch has failed.
There is no "fix" for this other than to repalce the switch with a new one.
If you have good DIY skills and tools, and feel competent to work on electrical devices, then it is possible to do this yourself, however Dyson dont make it easy !
The plastic switch covers (the bit you actually press) are normally held in place by a hidden plastic tag that is released using a narrow, flat tool such as a very small screwdriver or flat file. If you look very carefully at the switch cover, you should be able to see a very small "slot" on one side in to which you place the flat tool and "feel" for the tag. Once the swicth cover is removed, you can then access the switch.
Replacement switches are normally available on eBay.
If all this sounds a bit daunting, take it to a repair shop, or call Dyson helpline.
Have the battery and the alternator tested under a heavy electrical load. Some of the cheap battery testers will not indicate a bad or weak cell. Also your alternator may not put out enough amperage to keep up with the electrical demands placed upon it. A good battery tester is a carbon pyle tester. Good luck.
