This is always because people buy modern SD Cards that are far too bit for older cameras. The maximum size for an SD Card is 2GB. Also you must format the card inside the camera.
1. The camera will format by itself.
2. or Use any already formatted SD card.
3. or in most camera setup mode, there will be an option to format the SD Card.
You could try formatting it in My Computer on PC by right clicking on its icon to bring down the option, then format again in the camera to ensure compatibility

Usually the first thing you need to do with any SD card and Camera is to go into the settings of the your camera and Format the SD card. 2. Initialize the SD card

It is impossible to format the SD card while it is write protected.
3. Check if your camera detects other SD cards (If you own multiple SD cards.)
If your camera does not detect the SD card after performing the procedures 1 and 2, check if the camera detects other SD cards.
If it does detect other SD cards, the SD card that wasn't detected may contain some problem.
