I have a six year Maytag Atlantis MDG7600AWW gas dryer. The dryer is not heating to dry the clothes. It took over three hours for the clothes to tumble dry. When I opened the door, the clothes were dry but cool.
I cleaned the vent thoroughly and made sure the vent was secure to the outside vent and also to the dryer. I tested another load. The dryer was working properly. There was heat! However, a few minutes later, it no longer was heating.
I went behind the dryer again. I disconnect the vents and resecured them. It heated for another five minutes and then that was it. I am stumped on this. Any assistance in this matter is greatly appreciated.
I could not find any gas coils. I have what appears to be a 'glow' plug which turns on orange and then kicks on the gas/blue flame.
I vaccumed off all of the lint on wires and within the sheet metal cylinder in which the gas operates.
The gas/flame will run for about 10 minutes and shut off. I will not return on after the glow plug light up. What I have done, is let the dryer stop running for 15 minutes and then turn the dryer back on. The cycle will begin once again for about minutes. It takes over 2 hours to dryer damp clothes.
Could it be a timer? A heat sensor? There are no obstructions in the in dryer vent. I have exhausted any other work around with the dryer.
Any assistance or advice is greatly appreciated! Here is an update:

Yes, I did not fix my problem and it has been running perfectly for the last three months.
My issue was lint contacting the coils. The coils would fire up and then automatically shut down. I removed the bottom panel and carefully took the vacation nozzle with a soft brush and removed all lint from the coils and the stainless steel compartment. After that, I vacuumed around the entire interior of the base of the dryer to capture any remaining lint.
Good luck!Yes, I did not fix my problem and it has been running perfectly for the last three months.

The gas coils have a problem. as the dryer heats p the coils on the gas valve are failing causing the dryer not to heat. replace the coils and you should have no problem

Hi,
If you are having problems with your gas dryer not heating
the most common problem is that the ignitor goes bad. Even though it glows
sometimes it is still not working properly.
if you dryer is gas check out this gas no heat tip....
If you have an electric dryer, you can have many different
things that can go wrong causing the dryer not to heat.
This link shows the next likely cause of your issue. Remove the front panel and inspect the sensor bar which is located at the 4 o'clock level on the drum bulkhead, ( see the first link for location). Ascertain that 2 wires are connected to it and that black sensor bar is not cracked or broken.
Try running it with the vent disconnected and feel the air coming out of the dryer. It should have good flow. If it dries good, your pipe may be clogged.

I had a similar problem years back. It was the ignitor. The ignitor is a ceramic like piece that heats up (glows red) that ignites the gas. Typically when that goes, you will see some white residue build up where it cracked, thus breaking the electrical connection. This thing works like a heating element on an electric stove, but rougher looking.
The part was about $30 at my local parts store. I bought an extra one just in case so I have it on hand. I installed it with common tools.
You can check it to see if you lost connection by using a volt meter.
I have a Maytag Atlantis Gas Dryer that will turn on, rotate, but will not get hot and dry the clothes. A load of clothes in the afternoon, didn’t dry, tried again but didn’t dry – went to bed after putting on auto dry - next morning the dryer was still rotating and didn’t turn off. No hot air – only cold air.
I would sstart by replaceing the gas valve coils they are located on the top of the gas vavle . they will weaken over time and will not stay energized to open the primary and secondary vavle
